My story is just like all the rest. Obesity runs in my family. Almost everyone who is related to me has struggled with their weight. At about 10 years old, I started to put on pounds. At 12, I went to my first (of many) Weight Watchers meetings. At 12, I got made fun a lot because I was fat and went on the cabbage soup diet. (ew.) At fourteen, I was clinically depressed and went on a shake diet and exercised like a fiend. After high school I kept gaining and went back on the cabbage soup diet. (Duh, you would've thought I'd learned the first time) This was followed by COUNTLESS diets that failed. In college was when I put on the most weight. I was probably over 300 pounds then. I went back on Weight Watchers. I was "successful" in losing 20 lbs. Then it went up again and then my fiance at the time left me for another woman (which turned out to be the best thing) and I went on the "I'm so sad" diet. And back to Weight Watchers. That time I lost 40-50 pounds, and was feeling good (even though I had a good deal more to lose) That stayed off for a while because of constant exercise, but soon enough, the weight started to creep back on. I met my husband and we had a beautiful wedding, bought our first house and stress of adulthood started to weigh down on me. Then I decided to quit smoking. Here come 30 more pounds. So, basically I'm about where I was in college and a few months ago I ran into someone I hadn't seen in a while. She looked fantastic and had lost about 80 pounds, so of course I asked her what her secret was. Little did I know that her secret (the DS) was about to change my life. I started researching like crazy, looked into all the WLS options and decided (with my WONDERFUL hubby, or DH as you call them) that DS was for me. I looked at all the doctors in my area (there are a few here in Omaha) and it was obvious who would be my surgeon. After meeting Dr. Anthone, I couldn't imagine putting my life in anyone else's hands. And so, here I wait- insurance letter sent...waiting on the edge of my seat to hear from BCBS of California. Hoping to hear those two magic words...."you're approved." So I can start my new life. Wish me luck.
