Kandiicane
I am 52 yrs old. I am a Native Californian transplanted in Mississippi~! I am married to a wonderful "Southern Gentleman". I have four children and three grandchildren. I enjoy baking, crocheting, scrapbooking and genealogy.
I have been overweight since the age of 10. I remember being taken into the nurses office in the 8th grade along with another overweight young lady. I tipped the scales at 205 lbs. I stayed that weight until the summer before my Senior year of High School. I did not want to be "fat" my Senior year. With the help from my friend Toni, I changed my eating habits to include only heathly foods and smaller portions. Toni and I swam in her pool, played tennis at the high school, jogged up and down our dead-end street and played hard that summer. When my Senior yr began I weighted 160 lbs~! I felt wonderful~!
Needless to say a couple of years later I was married. I gained weight slowly and by the time my first child was born I weighed 220 lbs~! From that time on I was continually gaining until I hit my heaviest weight of approximately 300 lbs, sometime after the birth of my fourth child.
Every now and then I would eat right and exercise, thus loosing weight. Finally over the years I kept my weight down to 190 lbs for about 5 yrs~!
Then I came to Mississippi to marry my present hubby. He loves to eat out. I was not used to doing that and gained 20 lbs the first month I was here~! Over time I gained a few more lbs. But the big gain of 50 lbs came when I finally quit the smoking habit~! I couldnt believe that I could put on so much weight in such a short time period~!
The wear and tear on the body weighing this much has not been very good. My knees rebel each time they have to take a step up a curb.....and they scream when they see we must go up some stairs~! Cholesterol just loves to pack his bags and stay for months at a time....finally I got him to move on with a little help from two friends. Diabetes also decided to stay for a visit indeffinately and she succeeded too, until once again I had to have some help from a friend. Just walking exhausts me so you can imagine what I must look like after cleaning the house or working outside in the yard. I am huffing and puffing like an old steam engine~!
I have so many reasons to be excited about surgery....
to feel better physically
to be able to walk without blowing steam
to be able to climb stairs a bit easier
to be a healthy active person
to be at a weight that my Husband can pick me up in his arms~!
(when he lifts me up now, I worry he will break something)
I look forward to my surgery day with excitment and joy. Yes nervousness is there too.
I always prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
I am ready.....oh so ready~!
I have been doing my research and reading up on all I can find about Bariatric Surgery. That has prepared me the most.
As of October 2006 I weighed in at my Doctor's Office at 279lbs! I gained a bit more before I decided to lose. I didnt know if my insurance would make me lose a certain percentage of my weight. I also had to start a three month Doctor supervised diet.
