7 days to surgery and 2 days to clear diet
Oct 06, 2008
Well, I stopped at McDonald's and got a steak burrito and orange juice just now and it wasn't all that great. I meant to try one a while back but never messed with it so I figured if I wanted to try one to try it now. I should have gotten an egg mcmuffin or something, anything else.
OK, I have started watching "Dead like me" on netflix and it has been a pretty humorous show. I love Netflix, it is great. I have even hooked my computer up to the TV in the living room and I watch programs live via the computer on the TV.

10 days to go
Oct 03, 2008
Well, how do I look at it, 5 days of eating anything I want or 10 days to a new me...? I have thought about that the last few days... How do I look at it last days of "food" freedom or lfielong "food" jail?
Oh well, on with it.

12 days to surgery, what to eat?
Oct 01, 2008
I am not going to put weight on, if I can help it but I am going to enjoy a few of my favorite foods over the next week. Right now I am having a normal sized portion of Texas fajitas (shrimp, chicken and beef).
this past Sunday we went to the Chinese buffet for my sisters 21st birthday (it is really October 8th but that is the day I start my liquid diet and this weekend she has a karate tournament).
Tomorrow I am having my wife's spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread.
Friday I am going to have a piece of chocolate cake made with applesauce instead of oil and no icing or anything on top (just the way I like it).
I am going to beg my wife to make some homemade bread, she makes it a couple of times a year and I cannot have it afterwards for a while. So if she does this for me then that will go on the list for Saturday.
Sunday I think we will have a nice family meal, nothing too heavy just some grilled chicken, cottage cheese, peaches, tomatoes and hard boiled eggs.
Monday I am going to start cutting back on things to get ready for the liquid diet that starts Wed. October the 8th.
-Jaime
Oh, I almost forgot, one of my favorite things in the world, Rootbeer and Reese's peanut-butter cups. I am going to get that down me between now and Friday, that way it gets out of my system. Or maybe, rootbeer float and peanut-butter cup... yea!

Final approval for surgery
Sep 30, 2008
Well, I feel a bit more at ease and pretty happy. I had my appointment with the surgeon today and everything is a go, I got a green light. Since my gall bladder is already only working at 11% they are going to remove it while they are in there "rewiring" me.
All my vitamin levels and blood work was OK but my vitamin D, while normal was on the low side and my protein was normal but on the low side so I am going to work on those the next week or so before I go on the clear diet... October 8th.
I did lose 11 pounds in the last couple weeks so that it good.
I wish I had a scale that I could weight myself on at home but I figure that can be a goal, I never thought I would say gee I hope I can weight myself on a scale that goes up to 350, heh.

Pre-op visit with surgeon tomorrow
Sep 29, 2008
Well, tomorrow is my pre-op visit with Dr. Rossi. I have a few questions to ask him but I am afraid I am missing something so I am going to think long and hard between now and 230 tomorrow afternoon abut what else I want to ask him.
I will keep this blog updated as long as I can remember to use it. I am not much for blogging but it seems to help with the anxiety.

14 days to go
Sep 28, 2008
Okay, I am scared as heck and really nervous. The closer it gets the more nervous I get.
Am I making the right decision? IS everything going to go smoothly? What else can I possibly be doing to lessen my chances of any problems? How can I prepare for surgery so that I heal faster/better? Am I completely nuts for doing this? Is the strain on my family going to be fair, I mean they wouldn't have to help me were I not having surgery? Why am I so hungry all of a sudden? Is it the idea that I will no longer be able to eat foods that make me feel good?or is it just the idea that I cannot having the foods after-wards so I better enjoy them while I can?
I am sure these are normal questions, at least that is what I keep telling myself.

McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL messed up again
Sep 25, 2008
I have to go back in because they left my blood int he sun and the vitamin A cannot be tested now. It will be 3 days before they get results and that is the same day my doctor appointment.
I did not think it was possible for someplace to screw up as much as this place has but I can tell you I will not go to them unless I thikn I am diying and cannot possibly make it somewhere else.
The upperGi test went well yesteray at OSF in Peoria. They were professional and on the ball.

UpperGi did NOT go as planned
Sep 22, 2008
McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois could not accommodate me so I had to get a new appointment for my upperGi and I am saying it now. If this causes me to lose my surgery date I am going to go insane with the staff at MDH.I understand I am a very large person, more large than the average however, their machine only goes to 250 or 300lbs and there are a lot of people topping the scales at 250-300lbs.
What a day, I am so disappointed in not having all my pre-op stuff completed. Now I have to miss another days worth of classes and go to Peoria (1.5 hours) just so I can get an upperGi while standing. I hope the test doesn't take a long time. I understand having to stand but if I have to stand still more than a few minutes there better be thinking of something else to do.
Surely I am not the largest person to have a bariatric surgery done at OSF in Peoria so someone has to have the capabilities to run some tests on me, I mean come on we are talking about some xrays here.
I hope things go better Wed. when I have it done in Peoria.

Pre-op testing
Sep 21, 2008
Pre-op testing in the morning. I am having a battery of blood work, EKG, and upper-GI at 9:45. I hope all goes well and I am cleared for surgery. I am not too worried about it because I feel pretty healthy and I have been healthy the last 4-5 years when I have my blood work done on my birthday. My good cholesterol even went up from 19 to 43 this year so that's good.
I have my nutritional meeting this week also, Wed. evening and my step-mother and wife and son are going with me. I will get all the information to the other relatives that are going to "babysit" me while I am laid up and recovering. I get to go find out what my new life after surgery will consist of diet wise.
One thing I thought of the since my last post, I wonder why I am having two surgeons. That's right, I chose Dr. Rossi to be my surgeon and when they called to set up the appointment they told me another doctor (Dr. Marshall, also with Peoria Surgical Group) would be doing the surgery with Dr. Rossi. I wonder if it is normal because of my size (563) or if it is because I am having an OPEN ds or both. Oh well, I say two highly skilled competent doctors are better than one, right?
