Well everyone's story starts somewhere and here's my start...
As others have noted in their own stories excessive weight has been with me most of my life. I've attempted just about every weight loss method you could name but all came to no avail.
Late last year my wife and I began researching various WLS methods, we found several people that had RNY and a few Band patients.  I guess my moment of "OK that's enough" was a recent plane flight.  At least the research into WLS had at least made me aware of the need for and existence of seat belt extenders, it was good to know since I needed it!! Given all the other issues that generally go along with extreme obesity, I had the classic co-morbidities; High Blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea. So outside the excess weight these were other pressing needs to loose the weight.
We decided that my wife should go first since she might have had more difficulty with approval. She has already had the procedure and is proceeding great on this path. After working with my PCP and his due diligence finally got his letter of necessity, Everything was taken care of; Psych eval, nutrionist visit and different seminars. Insurance was submitted and within 2 weeks the surgeon had received approval and  surgery was approved!! The surgery date was set for a little more than a month after I received approval. .
