Well, it is this Friday. Today I went to Dr. Hellings office to visit with the dietition and surgical/recovery room nurse. Both ladies were VERY informitive. I am becomeing more and more impressed with Dr. Hellings Staff. I also completed my pre-admission with St. Lukes Medical Center, including having 8 tubes of blood drawn for various lab work. They will be providing a bariatric bed for my stay. (I got to see one in use today by Jeannette Shown who had her surgery last Friday. It looked very comfortable.)
Since talking with the doctor, his staff, and finally seeing Jeanette (who looked amazingly well for a few days after her own surgery) I have become very psyched about getting through the proceedure. I have been somewhat concerned prior, as I was not sure how well I would do. I am very relieved that I am nearing the light at the end of the tunnel and knowing it's not an oncoming train.
My next update will be on the otherside. I pray for God's Speed.

I'm on the other side. The surgery went well, the hospital stay, maybe a little too short (5 days) and after less than 3 weeks I'm 42 pounds lighter. WOO HOO!! I had a little set back last week. My incision reopened about six inches. I had to go to the emergency room to have it closed. It is really weird to watch your surgeon put his whole fist on the inside of your stomach and feel around. Not something that I would want to do again.
Day by day I am getting better. The incision will take a month or two to close completely and until then I guess I will be a little out of breath and short on energy. I am doing all the protein that I can to help it heal. My hunger is almost non-existant. 2 bites of anything puts me away. Milk and soup seem to be my friend. It is about the only thing that i can take in any quantity. Looking forward to getting back to work again next week. I think that it will help my head as well as my body to be doing something constructive.
