4 YRS

Nov 18, 2013

Hi everyone!  Well another year has passed.  DS life has been good.  I'm still weighing between 190-198 depending on the day!  My blood labs are all good except for iron.  Working on that.  I'm very faithful in taking my vitamins & I still drink at least 1 protein shake daily.  I also go to support group meeting once a month.  I really feel this helps, being accountable for yourself.  Plus the interaction with other WL people, who have gone through or are going through some of the same trials as you.  You can learn so much from these people. This year has been a sad one.  First I had to have my fur baby of 13 yrs put to sleep in June.  In July we loss Dr. Stewart.  He was a wonderful surgeon & person in general.  Words can't express what I have in my heart for this man.  He saved my life!  Then Sept. 30, my Daddy went to heaven to be with my Mom.  I'm still trying to come to terms with him being gone.  I was a Daddy's girl, even at 54 yrs old.  But without my DS surgery, I would have never been able to care for him the last 2 yrs of his life.  I will always cherish those 2 yrs.  So now with the New Year right around the corner, I'm looking forward.  Praising God every step of the way for my new life.  I would like to encourage those who are thinking of or are going to have WLS.  Follow the rules/steps and enjoy life.

3 years

Nov 16, 2012

Well, it's been 3 yrs today since I had my DS.  And I can say that yes I'm loving it, life is good.  Went to see Dr. Stewart yesterday.  My blood labs showed low in K and A (which I was low on A before surgery).  Borderline low on protein, iron and Calcium.  So will be adding more K & A and trying to get in more protein, iron & calcium into my daily regiment.  My weight has leveled off at 195 which is a total of 220 lbs lost!  I'm very happy with the 195, of course 175 sounds better.  I do have a lot of sagging skin--my legs and stomach are the worst and if I can ever afford PS those 2 areas are the first to go!  I have RA now, which isn't DS related.  So I'm on Med's for it as well.  So, I'm hoping if anyone ever reads my blog that they will be encouraged by my journey.

Happy 2012

Jan 11, 2012

Well, I'm hoping for a Happier 2012--this past year was a little rough.  Lost my Mom in July and having 2 knee replacements- (June and August).  Christmas was the worst--started eatting junk--even though I knew not to. Gained a few lbs. back up to 207.  So, Jan. 2nd I started cutting back on carbs and sugar--and to my surprise dropped 9 lbs in 1 week..So yes I'm now down to 198lbs.  My DS is still working for me at 25 1/2 months out.  I'm so excited!  I haven't been below 200lbs , wow - probably since I was 16 or 17 yrs old--and let me tell you that was a LONG time ago!

2 years and feeling great!

Nov 17, 2011

Yesterday (November 16th) was 2 years since my surgery.  Wow, what can I say.  So much has changed for me--all for the good.  I started at 415 lbs and today I'm 201--a 214lb lost.  I was able to have both of my knee replacements done this summer.  I'm now back to my old independent self.  My husband is so happy he no longer has to do all the cleaning, cooking and shopping.  He no longer has to go places with me (just to help me - pushing me in a wheelchair, etc. ).  I'm still low on Vit A and Zinc which we are working on.  But over all my "labs" are good.  I feel good--wearing much smaller clothes...down from 5X tops to 14/16's and 34-36 pant to size 16 & 18.  Yes, there is alot of extra skin-everywhere!  but I can live it.  A good trade off for my good health.  I have had so many blessings these last 2 years.  I'm so thankful for Dr. Stewart and Sue, his NP.  What a wonderful team they make.   Also, for all the friends I have met here on OH.

2nd knee

Sep 28, 2011

Well, Aug. 23rd I had my 2nd knee replacement.  This one was in a little worst shape, so recovery was a little slower getting started.  But, it's been 5 weeks - going on 6 and it's doing really good.  I will be done with PT this coming friday.  So, I will have to continued on by myself.   LIFE is GOOD!  I'm now walking with no canes.  And feeling so much better.  I'm happy again.  Work- well I came back last week (4 weeks after surgery), and so far no problems.  And again, I lost another 10 lbs after surgery so, I've lost a total of 210lbs.  Still hope to lost about 20-25 more before stopping.  November 16th will be 2 years and my life is sooooo much better.

1st Knee Surgery "Done"

Jul 20, 2011

Well, so my 1st knee surgery is done and I'm back to work 6 wks later.  Again, I couldn't have asked for a smoother surgery and recovery.  Everything, including the PT went so well!  The worst was I loss my Mother on July 11.  But she is now in heaven with the angels!  I will miss her greatly.  On to other things---I have already scheduled my 2nd knee surgery for Aug. 23rd.  A little sooner than I would have liked.  But due to insurance purposes I had to get it done before Oct. 1, and the Dr. surgery dates for Sept were booked.  So, Aug. 23rd it is!  I also lost another 13 pounds over this past 6 weeks!  So now at 20 months out I have lost a total of 200lbs!  WOW, can't hardly believe it!  Lots of luck and love to everyone out there!

18 months

May 31, 2011

Well, it's been 18 months + a couple of weeks!  As of this morning I have lost 187lbs.  That's another 20 lbs since Jan.  So, yes the WL is slowing down, but not stopped.  I'm scheduled for my 1st knee replacement surgery next Tuesday (June 7th).  I'm scared, but so really for this to happen.  My "labs" this time around showed me to be low on Iron and still low on Vit A.  So I have started taking Iron.  And, I'm taking Vit A injections for 18 days, which hopefully with boost it enought that I can keep it up with extra Vit A pills (100,000 units a day).  I have had 3 UTI since Feb. of this year.  But I have tried to up my fluid in-take, hoping it will help.  Well, that's all for now.  I hope to post again in a couple of weeks.

Knee Surgery1

Jan 27, 2011

Well went to my knee Dr. last week and I will be scheduling knee replacement surgery  (1 knee) for the 1st week of June!  I'm so ready to have it done.  Was hoping for a date in early April, but Dr. is already booked.  So June it is..  I have lost another 10 lbs, making my total weight lost at a whooping 165 lbs.. Dropping sizes again--I'm now wearing a size 20 jeans and 1xl tops.  I have 2 sisters, Older sister (by 8yrs) and younger sister (by 10yrs)--anyway, this is the first time in my entire life that I have been smaller than either of them.  That is a big WOW for me!  10 lbs and I will be at 240lbs, which is what I weight some 30 yrs ago when I got married.  DH is excited over that one!

1 year today!

Nov 16, 2010

Wow, what can I say?  1 year today I was in surgery for my DS and what a year it has been.  I have lost a total of 147 lbs--2 lbs shy of the my 1 year goal--but it will happen.  My personal goal is to get down to 225 lbs (42 more lbs), which I feel is reachable.  Of course if I lose more, that would be wonderful!  But 225-220 I will be so happy with.  I've gone down from size 36 pants to size 24 and 5x top to 2x.  I'm still going to have to have knee replacements, but with all this weight off, hopefully my recovery will be bearable.  But even now by losing the 147 lbs, my pain is down to a 1-2 level most of the time.   I have been able to make short road trips (to visit parents) by myself, which my husband is thankful for.  I now get out more (shopping, church, eating out with friends)--things that I had shut myself off to before surgery.  My life has improved so much this past year.  I have met other DS peeps!  So nice to have these new friends--  I'm so excited to see what this next year will bring my way.
