Update
Apr 20, 2008
So, here are my stats as of now.
I am 8 weeks out today.
I weigh 206 lbs. I've lost 43 since surgery (4 pre-op).
My BMI is 37.7.
I feel absolutely GREAT. More energy than ever, sometimes I am downright hyper. I'm eating what I'm supposed to and drinking only water (and sometimes skim milk).
Occasionally I add Crystal Light to my water, but usually I prefer plain water.
ME, the Diet Pepsi addict who NEVER drank water!
I eat mostly either what I cook the family, just smaller portions, or warm-up dinners like Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones, etc. for meals.
I'm doing really well taking all of my vitamins & supplements.
Hardly any of my clothes still fit!
Last week I wore an XL scrub top and L scrub pants to work.
I can't WAIT to make my first goal, which is getting under 200 #s. I'll be there soon!
I've never felt better!

When Foamies ATTACK!
Apr 16, 2008
I had a hellacious case of the foamies tonight. Before work, I made half of a whole wheat bagel w/ LF cream cheese. I was so busy trying to get ready for work, that I ate it too fast. BIG mistake! I didn't even finish it, but the damage was done. I got the foamies, but I didn't throw up. Eventually, the feeling passed. Then, a little over 3 hours later, it was my break-time at work. Since I didn't know when or if I'd get another break, I went ahead and warmed up my Lean Cuisine dinner. I ate a few bites.....an even BIGGER mistake! I threw it away. I was miserable. After an hour and a half, I was still feeling terrible. I was FINALLY able to get it to come up, and then I immediately felt fine!
On a happier note, I have now lost 43 lbs. I have been exercising a lot more, and of course I'm still eating healthy. I'm officially cleared for Regular Foods now. I'm so glad I have this tool!

A Pleasant Surprise
Apr 01, 2008
When I stepped on the scale this evening (I work nights so I had just woken up), I weighed 215.5. For some reason, seeing that number made me realize how close I am to being UNDER 200 lbs. for the first time in so many years. Just 16 lbs. to go! I honestly am not sure how long it's been since I weighed less than 200#s. I think I went over for the first time when I was pregnant with my son in 1993; if not I came close to 200 and then went over when I was pregnant with my first daughter two years later in 1995.
I may have went down slightly after having the babies, but then it would creep back up. In 2000, I lost a lot of weight on my own by dieting. I came close to going under 200, but I didn't quite make it there. Then I got pregnant with my baby girl, and the weight jumped right back on.
In 2003, when my ex and I seperated, I got a job cleaning houses. I dropped a lot of weight due to being so active and never having time to eat! But I'm not sure how much, I didn't own a scale back then. Again, I'm pretty sure I didn't make it under 200 #s. If so, it was just barely.
And then, I quit that job and the weight crept back up on me.
And now, here I am, about to be under 200 and still keep losing! Sometimes it still shocks me. I haven't been a truly healthy weight in so many years. About 15, really. It's mind-boggling.
I have started exercising more and I feel great. This surgery is one of the best decisions I've ever made! I couldn't be happier with it.

One Month Post-Op
Mar 24, 2008
Today I am exactly one month post-op. I have lost 29.5 lbs.
I can tolerate a lot of good foods, like shrimp, cheese, Wendy's Chili
, pintos & cheese.....even at this stage, I can find things to eat in restaurants. John and I eat out a lot and it's nice to still be able to do that.
John and the girls are also eating healthier, which is a GREAT thing!
The only thing I really still miss is Diet Pepsi. I know it's best that I don't start back drinking it, so hopefully that craving will go away one day. Right now, I just drink a lot of water & Crystal Light!
I haven't yet regretted this surgery for one moment!
I got 2 comments today; a nurse who I rarely work with said "something is different about. Is you hair getting longer, or what?" I just said yep, I'm growing out my hair. ha ha!
And then a friend & coworker who knew about the surgery said that you can REALLY tell I'm losing weight now.
And he's a guy, and a 21 year old guy at that! You'd think he'd be oblivious. LOL
So, that's my update for this month! I
my RNY!

Just updating

Things have been going great this week. Work has went fine, no more sickies.
Over the weekend, I ate a few shrimp and they went down great.
So, last night DH, the girls and I went out for Chinese. I got the shrimp & snow peas. It was delicious, and it went down wonderfully! The shrimp were huge and they gave me like 300 snow peas. Of course I didn't eat much, but it was great.
I've also added nuts to my menu. They go down great and give me extra protein! Since I hate, loathe, and despise protein shakes, I'm trying to get all of my protein through food. So I need all of the little helps I can get!
I've really been struggling with liquids. I am tired of water, and can't drink much else (except my beloved milk). I'm way too picky about what I like, unfortunately. I still miss my Diet Pepsi, although I hope one day I won't even want it any more. It's like crack to me! I've also really wanted orange juice, but I'm not supposed to have it right now, it's too acidic.
Anyway, last night I bought 2 things to try out: Tropicana Sugar Free Orangeade (comes in a 2 liter bottle with the sodas), which I'd heard was very good, and Crystal Light's Classic Orange "On the Go" packets.
They are both SOOOO good. The best thing I've drank post-op! It's so nice to have FLAVOR again! Mmmm.
And tonight at work, I walked and walked and walked. Just for exercise. I got winded and kept right on going. It felt GREAT!!
I'm ready for a great weekend!

A Few Little Bumps on the Road!
Mar 17, 2008
I'll start with saying I now weigh 227 and have lost 22 lbs since surgery.
And....things had been going really well with eating. Hubby and I went to St Augustine this weekend, and I packed some food but planned to try some things when we went out to eat. So, the first time it went great. We went to one of our favorite places, Sunset Grill, for lunch. I got mahi mahi with cheese on top. It was great, and it went down perfectly. Yay!
I got braver.
I decided to have a baked potato for dinner. With cheese and bacon bits. I also had a couple of bites of hubby's chili.
Not so great results! It just felt 'stuck' and took a while for me to feel better.
Then Sunday morning, we went to Denny's for breakfast. I planned on getting a cheese omelette, but I saw the ham & cheese omelette and thought that may be good. I was picturing thin slices of ham, and I thought the extra protein would be great.
Instead, it was small cubes of ham. I took 2 bites and knew that I couldn't eat any more. And when we left, it came back up! I'm sure Denny's appreciated me puking in their parking lot.
Then, hubby and I played miniature golf. We had a ton of fun, and at one point I got thirsty and GULPED down about 4 sips of water. OOPS! DUH!!! It's crazy what I forget when I'm not at home! It HURT my chest and then it, too, came back up.
So, since then I've done much better. I'm taking it slowly, and not trying to rush things.
BUT then last night, I returned to work. I'd been feeling great! But when I got there, I started having gas pains and diarrhea. After four hours of running to the bathroom (I honestly think I spent at least half of that time on the toilet!), I gave up and came home. Tomorrow night, I'm taking GasX strips with me! I honestly think it' was mostly because I was holding the gas in.
Hey, this is my blog and I'm honest! At home, when I get gassy, I let it out! At work, in a relatively quiet ICU, I can't do that.
As soon as I started driving home and being more relaxed, I felt better. And now, I feel fine!
Oh, this crazy bumpy road I'm on!

Surgeon Visit
Mar 13, 2008
Today I saw the surgeon for the post-op check in. His staff is so awesome, and so is he. It was a great visit, and I've lost 19 lbs. All is well, and I go back in 3 months.
When he did the RNY, he also did a liver biopsy, and they told me today that there was some fat but it was very minimal, so it should be fine after I lose the weight, and otherwise my liver is healthy.
This weekend is DH's birthday and we're going to St Augustine! WOOHOO!

Just an Update
Mar 08, 2008
As of today I have lost 17.5 lbs.
Today, DH, DS and I went hiking. I felt like walking, more than just down the road or around the mall.
First we went to the Devil's Millhopper, a huge sinkhole. We walked all the way around it, I don't know the distance. Then we went down the road to the San Felasco Hammock area, and walked for a mile on the trails. It was fun, and I feel great! I have been taking VERY small bites of some purees. More or less just testing myself, and so far I'm doing fine!

Mini-Dump?
Mar 04, 2008
I think I may have had a mini-dumping episode today. For the first time, I drank some Carnation Instant Breakfast (SF). I am SO sick of protein drinks!
So, the envelope is to be mixed with one cup of milk. I mixed it, intending to drink half and save the rest for later. Well, I got online, got distracted, and drank almost all of it. Then I started sweating, and feeling nauseous. I laid down on the couch for a few minutes and then felt better.
So, it was a reminder to be more careful!
I'm down 10.5 lbs.

It's a beautiful day!
Mar 02, 2008
Today, I woke up feeling better than I have since the surgery. Not that I've had a ton of pain, but I've had some....and now I only have some slight discomfort.
I weighed first thing, and I weigh 238 lbs. I've lost 6.5 since the surgery.
Then, when I walked outside to pour out some mop water (I'm cleaning!), I saw this huge, gorgeous butterfly on the grass right in front of me. It seemed to just be waiting for me to get outside. It stayed right there for a while and let me watch it and admire its beauty, then slowly flitted away.
Yesterday was rough. Head hunger nearly drove me insane. I felt depressed. I felt like I was going through detox.
But today is going to be a beautiful day!
