After having battled with my weight since as early as I can remember, I have contemplated WLS for years.  However, I put it on hold during the years I was pregnant and have tried all the diets before and after.  I had almost forgot about WLS until one day I opened the door and a friend I hadn't seen in a few months stood there 120 lbs lighter than the last time I had seen her!  This was the kick in the butt I needed.
On Sept 30 I applied for the Duodenal Switch and although I wasn't officially denied, my dr received the standard letter saying that the surgery is reserved for patients with a BMI more than 50 and mine was 44.  My dr did research the surgery but wasn't really prepared to argue with the ministry of health about the surgery.  So, I started investigating RNY which I had initially been against when I saw the comparisons with the DS surgery.  However, after having talked to OHIP and some other people who've had the RNY, I have decided to tell OHIP that I would like to be approved for RNY.  I have a consultation with Dr Poplawski on Oct 27 to discuss the surgery and am really excited about it!    Right now I'm 5'4" and weight 260 pounds.  Normally I'd be ashamed to admit that but I know it's only downhill from here!  Currently I'm waiting for my dr to submit the info to ohip again to see if I will be approved.  Wish me luck!
