Hi I'm 41 years old have a wonderful husband and a beautiful, wonderful 15
year old daughter. I have had all my testing done and I am currently
waiting to get and appt for my first actual Doctor visit. Hoping they
will make my doc visit and nutrition class appt same day - seeing as it's
3 hours away. I am interested in hearing from people who have had surgery
with the Geocarisis in Green Bay WI.
2/23/04 Got home from work and there was a message to call my physicians
office. Called and they had a date of March 3rd for my consultation, EKG,
blood work she said I will pick my date then. Wow happening fast! My
daughter was worried I would be gone for her birthday March 11 - I told
her no I will pick a date after that. Excited, Scared Etc.
3/4/04 Went to Green Bay yesterday for my consultation. Had to leave
home at 4:30AM for my 8:30 appt. Met with Dr Cindy Geocaris felt
comfortable with her. We decided on open RNY because of less complication
problems. I'm scheduled for April 5th at 2:30 I have to be at the
hospital at 12:30. So far I'm not worried. I was told to eat low
carbohydrates till then. Wish I had a list of low carb foods - have to
check the internet! I also had labs, EKG, chest xray and nutrition class.
We got home after a little shopping at 10:30pm. Long day!
3/26/04 Got a call today from Geocaris's office and they have moved my
surgery to 3:30 on the 5th. Panicked a little that they were changing the
day all together.
4/2/04
Have to start packing for Green Bay we are going tomorrow and plan on
shopping in Appleton then probably meeting my sister for dinner. Want to
get lots of liquids in before midnight Sunday. Surgery is scheduled for
3:30 have to be there at 1:30. Sounds like I'll have alot of support my
sister Judy is coming from Marquette, My brother Bob and his wife Ruth
will be coming from Fond Du Lac and my niece Sarah who lives in Green Bay
took the day off plus my hubby and daughter will be there. I requested a
private room on Friday so maybe people won't get kicked out of my room.
I'll report when I'm home (maybe from the hospital) on how much I weighed
pre op and possibly post a picture.
4/9/04
Got home today. I had my surgery on Monday at around 4:00pm and it took
about and hour then I was in recovery for an hour then I was brought to my
room. My family was great my brother Bob and his wife Ruth, my sister
Judy and my niece Sarah and my husand and daughter were all there to send
me off. My pain was never above a 3 and I had my cath removed on Tuesday
and my morphine pump removed on Wednesday when I stated to get a headache
then went to Loratab. They also removed my IV on wednesday. Thursday I
stayed to after dinner and then left and went to a hotel Thursday night
and we drove home today stoped every 45 minutes to and hour and walked
through the malls then when I got home and we went to the hospital where I
work to pick up my pain meds and I visited with co-workers. And now I
just came home from grocery shopping and my wonderful hubby is making
dinner. So I suppose now I have to come clean with my weight. I was 279
on March 3 and 276.3 right before surgery.

4/5/04 We drove to Green Bay today for my one month and I'm down 34 lbs.
Kinda wondered if she'd say I was losing to fast but she was happy with my
progress. Tomorrow is my last day of pureed foods and then I can do soft
for 4 weeks. I was told I could start exercising but I don't know how
ready I am for that since I'm usually a little sore and tired after work.
We'll see. Also got my perscription for b-12 to start taking.
09/22/04 Drove to Green Bay today for I guess would be my 6 month. She
said I'm doing great I've lost 99lbs and she said if I thought I was at
good weight she was happy where I am but If I wanted to get to 135 or so I
could. I'm going to keep losing hopefully.
10/04/04 I'm down a 101lbs now seems like it's slowing down I hope not.
She did want me to start exercising cause other than the running around at
work I don't really. Can eat alot of things I still havent had anything
over 10 grams of sugar and refuse sugar free. Don't want to start any bad
habits. I do enjoy Bloody Mary's with or without the alcohol.
10/15/04 Got brave added pictures I'll have to put my day before picture
in yet but this one was done approx 2 months out. The other picture is of
me on the left my daughter and husband taken the night of the Tim Mcgraw
concert.
3/9/05 Went for my one year check I am down 130lbs I think it has kind of
stopped. I still very happy I did this. My stomach sticks out and Dr
Cindy informed me I have a Hernia so I will be getting that fixed soon.
I'm happy to know it's not permanent!
5/5/05 Had my hernia repair had to stay overnight my incision was almost
as big as my wls incision. I go tomorrow 5/11/05 to have my drain and
staples removed. I'm so happy my stomach isnt sticking out anymore!!!!
04/06 Had hernia surgery again .
5/07 Stomach still sticks out have gained about 20lbs just in the last 6 months. I have to really watch that more - still don't eat sugar over 8 to 10 grams. I have started exercising more - would like to find a way to fix my stomach.
