I have been big all of my life. I can remember my father telling me that my little legs were so fat that he had to excercise them when I was little so that I could learn to walk. He said I used to laugh so hard when he did this. The smallest I remember being is a size 16 when I was a senior in high school, when I met the love of my life, my wonderful husband Ricky, whom I have been married to for now 30 years. THis was when I was 18 years old. I am now 49 and weighed 242 lbs before I had my Laporscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery on 3/1/2007. I have wanted to have this surgery for about 5 years now, but was scared. I decided 2 years ago to go ahead with the procedure, but found out I needed a spleenectomy for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia. I felt I would never be a candidate after that. My daughter convinced me to find out if I could have lap band surgery, and after much research, attended the seminar at Dr. Morans office. After the program, I found I was still a candidate for the surgery. Being ready to change my life and health forever, I followed my heart with the support of my husband and children, I had the work-ups and testing done and got approval from my insurance with the first letter.
I did not tell my mother or siblings until 2 days before surgery. I did not need anyone to give me the scare tactics or put questions in my mind. I am now 5 days post-op and am so happy I had the procedure. I have had practically no pain except from the trapped gas in the hospital and I feel great. I look forward to getting on with the rest of my life, and enjoying my grandchildren. My blood sugars are normal and I am not on any medication for this right now. Two of my blood pressure medicines have been stopped. I thank God for allowing this surgery to happen.
