Oh so much has happened...

Sep 16, 2009

Since my last blog here!  I healed up fine after my seroma.  My husband passed away unexpectedly 2 weeks before Christmas.  Quite a shock, to say the least.  Since then I've moved, had to give away all but 2 of my dogs... let's just say my life isn't what it used to be.

On a positive note - I'm down to 155 pounds, size 7!  Unbelievable!  I wish my husband were here to see me now!  I'm doing well now - for anyone who's reading this... please don't be concerned, I'm getting by.

Finally decided to start a blog.

Dec 01, 2007

It's been a bit of a rough start for me.  My surgery was on September 29, and all went very smoothly.  I was released from the hospital on October 1.

I stayed with my parents because they live in a ranch, and I wasn't ready to tackle the stairs in my own home after having open RNY (my bedroom's upstairs, bathroom down )

I was feeling really great, and went to the Renaissance Faire (3 hours from home) two weeks later.  Well, I guess all the walking moved things along for me, and my incision started to leak - badly.  My husband took me to the ER where my RNY was performed and they opened up the bottom two inches of my incision - I had developed a seroma.  For two weeks I had home health care coming to my parents', helping my dad to change my dressing - fancy words for stuffing a foot and a half of wet gauze into the hole that had been opened up.    NOT FUN.

I coped - it got better.  After several trips to the surgeon for follow-up, the hole closed up (for the most part).  I went back to my own home and my puppies (5 long haired chihuahuas!).

Home for two weeks, then back to the ER - kidney stone.  My first kidney stone and it was horribly, incredibly painful!!!

It's been three weeks since, and I'm doing fine.  Incision's completely healed, no more stones.  I'm still having some problems with solid foods being evicted from the pouch , but I'm feeling much better, and I have only ONE pound to go to meet my first goal - 50 pounds!!

I'm not regretting this so much now.  I do still miss my pre-op life.  It's not that I miss food so much, I;m just very uncomfortable eating - I never know when it's going to come back up.  But I'm coping!
