Well I am 30 days from surgery. I have had a long and rough road. It all started back in 2003 when I first talked to my doctor about gastric bypass surgery. I expressed my concern for the what would become over 200 pound weight gain due to a hypothyroid condition. She said that after my thyroid was back to normal that it would be a really good idea since I have always been overweight.
We went through a routine evaluation and the last thing to do before I started my JOURNEY through the hoops that I would be jumping to be ok'd for this surgery was a pregnancy test. Well I got good news and bad news. The good news I was pregnant... the bad news no more REAL talk about surgery for 2 years. I also found out that I was 5 1/2 months along.
2 years later I had a now 1 year old child and realized how much this surgery meant to my future and my health. I had a hard pregnancy and it didn't get better. I had to deal with taking care of a my child and my fiance and all the other responsibilities that came along with that. I was still gaining weight and my thyroid was out of control. I would have a hard time getting up with my son in the mornings and having energy to do anything.
Almost 4 years later I have a 3 year old son and my thyroid has decided to quite antagonizing me and is final back to normal. I am now attending school for my Associates Degree with a major in Medical Billing and Coding. Now my real journey will begin...
