Home from surgery Monday. RNY distal lap. I guess I went for the record - 7 hours on the operating table. I don't recommend this to anyone. Of course my family and friends were concerned as we planned for a 4 hour surgery. I was very large for lap, but my surgeon went for it. Unfortunately it meant he did 9 holes instead of 6 or 7, but no big. My biggest concern is my right hand has some nerve damage as a result of being on that operating table so long. Good news is that it is getting better, but for now my thumb and first twofingers are numb. Also, because of my tight mesentari (sp) (LOL at least something is tight) my surgeon is being very cautious - I have a gastric tube and I get nothing by mouth for two weeks. Pretty standard in cases of leak, he just wants to be sure I don't have one. So, I am still looking forward to a taste of even water. Spent 3 nights in hospital, they were super. My surgeon gave me his traditional hug when he discharged me.
Glad to be on the losing side, but can you believe I'm looking forward to the clear liqid stage! Just 10 more days I hope. Thanks to all the nice messages and support I've found here! As typing gets easier I will write more. CC
