For twenty five years I have been struggling with my weight. For the first five years of my life I was a normal active children, but for some reason in the first grade I began to gain weight and have not stopped. My senior year in high school I was able to loose 60lbs. through Weight Watchers, however during my Jr. year in college it started coming back. As you can imagine I tried almost every diet under the sun and have not been able to keep the weight off. During both of my pregancies I lost around 80lbs (each time), however within a year the weight was back on. If I could stay pregant I would, but this year I found out about the Lap-Band and off I go ready for this new chapter in my life.
Since I am an educator and have the state insurance plan, I am having to pay for the surgery myself. After talking to my husband we decided together this is the right step for me to take. It is hard to think of spending this much money on myself when I have two young children (4 and 2) and live on the income of two teachers, however, it is this now or major health problems sooner than later. When I found my doctor I knew God was sending my down the right path. The day I signed on was the exact day they were approved to conduct the out paitient surgries in a different facility, so I was able to save $5,000 dollars. Once I decide to do this all the peices of the puzzle feel into place.
This past fall a parent of my school lost her life to heart failure. She was 35 (5 years older than me) with a kindergartener at my school. She dropped her child off and within a few hours the school received a phone call to see if anyone could bring the child to the local hospital becasue the mother was not going to survive the masive heart attack she had suffered. The child did not make it in time.
This child is in my heart forever not only for the loss he has suffered, but also because this could be my children in the near future. I am determined it will not be, so I am on the journey of saving my life (and those of my husband and children.) I am excited to be able to have this procedure done in the near future and look forward to playing with my children without having to think about if I can fit in that seat or get up from the floor. I look forward to running in the yard playing chase, swinging on the swings, and going to Disney Wolrd! I look forward to seeing my children live a life making good food choices and not attempting a dream because of their weight. I am looking forward to being a good role model for my family.
I will succeed! I will conquer! I will live life to the fullest!
