3 YEARS POST OP!
Oct 11, 2009
October 9, 2009, marked three years since my WLS. I still maintain a weight of 210 lbs. versus weighing 365 lbs. only a couple of years ago. I recently had my annual checkup and again, had a perfect BP reading. Cholesterol and various blood tests had normal readings. Needless to say, my physician was thrilled with the results. I still feel great and am able to do so much more activities (physically). As for plastic surgery, there could be a small amount needed on my midsection, but at my age, I elected not to have any surgery done. This would strictly be a personal decision, in my opinion.
Bottom line is -- if faced with the same decision, I would most definitely have this surgery again. The key is to realize it is only a tool that teaches you to eat less and more nutritiously. Also remember, introducing exercise is a must. All this in combination will make for your long-term success. (I have had pictures taken today (10-11) and put in my profile).
See you again after 4 years post WLS, if not sooner.
TWO YEARS POST-OP
Oct 21, 2008
UPDATE 4-26-08
Apr 26, 2008
I haven't updated my profile in several months--it's all good news! I am still holding at goal and feel great. Back in February. I needed the gallbladder out (I hear its pretty common post-WLS), but my WLS M.D. performed the procedure and things went very well. I have now learned when I reach that "full" feeling to push the plate away. I also read labels on everything and if it doesn't contain protein, I don't eat it. Water is practically my only beverage except for some skim milk. These new eating habits are very easy to maintain and should keep me at this healthier weight! See you in another 6 months! (New picture taken 4/19 in my profile)
WEIGHT LOSS UPDATES
Apr 10, 2007
11-16-07--I had my one-year checkup with my surgeon a few weeks ago. I've just now gotten around to update my profile, but it is all good news. I've lost a total of 153 pounds, which puts me at goal. I was told not to lose anymore weight (never been told that before)--but also not to gain any weight. This is where the "tools" (learning portion control, reading labels, getting plenty of protein and water, exercise, etc) should take over, allowing me to maintain this weight.
In case you are wondering, yes, I would do it over again. It quite possibly saved my life. My regular doctor said that I had added at least 10 years to my life. How often can you do that? I quit smoking several years ago and now that I've lost this weight, I feel so healthy. Now the upcoming "twilight" years should be much easier.
