One Step Closer
Sep 12, 2007
I just got back from being out on vacation. I took my Girl Scouts camping at the end of August. We all had a blast. One of the leaders was taking pictures and she got one of me sitting on a rock with my hands folded in front of me. Well, when I saw the picture I was really taken back with the way by body looked. The time has come. I could not go hiking with my girls, my back and knees hurt and I probably would not have been able to keep up. The camp is very hilly. And swimming was just out of the question. I am not participating fully in life and I just do not want to see and watch it go by. I started having protein shakes two times a day and one meal. I have a doctor's appointment in October and hopefully my paperwork will be sent to my insurance company.
Doctor's Visit and a Big Surprise
Aug 16, 2007
I had my appointment yesterday and got my test results. I need vitamin D and I have some bacteria in my stomach, that I have to take an antibiotic for. They would like for me to lose 10 to 15 lbs before surgery. In my head, I was telling myself well do not get too excited because I am not covered for this procedure. I spoke to the insurance person at the doctors office and she said she was not going to put it in because I was going to get denied but to speak to my HR person and see if they can add a rider or purchase additional insurance to cover the surgery. I called my HR today and got the biggest surprise. My insurance does cover the surgery as long as I meet the requirements and boy do I. I am on cloud nine. I thought I was in for a fight. So I will start the diet that they gave me and patiently wait for the next step. All I know that I am one step closer in reaching my goal.
Looking forward to August 15th

I have taken my tests, went to the support groups and will be meeting with the surgeon on August 15th. Then I guess everything will be submitted to the insurance company. I am not that hopeful in getting approved because my company did not include wls in their policy. HR said submit it anyway and see what happens. Do they make exceptions??? I guess I will have to wait and see.
