Bev B.
As I stated in my introduction, I am scheduled to have Lap RNY on November 21, 2007. My initial surgery date was October 17, 2007; however, it had to be rescheduled due to my anemia.
I have been contemplating having the surgery for several years. I opted not to have the have the surgery prior to now because of the health risks and scarring. Once I was informed that the surgery could be done laparoscopically, that was the beginning of my journey. I was talking with a friend who recommended Dr. Halmi. The friends mother and sister-in-law both had the surgery and used the services of Dr. Halmi. I've faced a couple of obstacles in the process. I was told by my primary care physician at the beginning of the summer that I was slightly anemic and should take a daily iron supplment. I took the iron for about a week and then tired to control the deficiency with food. Well, my method didn't work. Since I opted not to take the iron supplement, my anemia worsened. My surgery had to be rescheduled because I didn't follow instructions the first time out of the gate. You better believe that I'm doing everything that I am supposed to now. My surgery had to be delayed for 1 month, but that gives me time to get my counts back up.
Please make sure you take care of yourself pre/post surgery. If you are anemic, take your iron. Follow your doctor/surgeons instructions completely to avoid the risk of your surgery being delayed and/or complications following your surgery.
