I am back, to update

Oct 26, 2010

Hello to all of you who have ms and may stumble upon this blog.

I am doing very well.  I was turned down for bariactric surgery in early Febuary 2010.  I did not have the surgery.  I was told I did not have enoug co morbidities and was basically not sick enough to get the surgery.  I was not a full diabetic and being hypoglycemic-prediabetic was not a good enough reason that my doctor had not documented my problems properly.  So I was left to my own devices.

I have kept my intial 30 lbs lost off.  YAH!!  But in the interm I have lost a 18 year relationship and had to move.  I also have become... duh duh duh... diabetic.  Many of you are now saying why doesn't she go get surgery.  First I want my sugars under control before sugery and secondly because of my diabetes I am on a new low carb diet and am losing weight I have dropped 9 lbs.

As a result of this diet though I am meeting tons of folks at a site called diabetes.com.  I am sending them here as many of them are looking for bariactric surgery.  If you are here because I sent  you... HELLO and welcome to the first step to a new life.

If my weight loss stalls if I climb back up to high I will definetly go through the steps to get R N Y my body can not sustain a high weight like it was at.  I have to become healthy.  I am still 147 lbs over weight roughly and am at about 254 still.

cross your fingers and wish me luck.. thanks for to all of you who stop here.

Oh my MS is currently either in remission or I don't have it my doctors cant make up their minds.. but I am not on any meds for it and am doing fine.  Basically I am sick of doctors in general.. so I am trying to manage my weight, my diabetes and my life.  If you have any questions about anything including the ms, weight loss or diabetes write me I will be more than happy to answer.

Moving forward.

Jan 03, 2009

Well there have been some minor set backs.  a 2 month maintenance diet and a near cancelation of my surgery due to the fact one doc said I couldnt take my effexor medication for depression.  I was so discouraged when I told them I wouldn't do the surgery without the med.

But it seems that it was facility protocol to not allow EFFEXOR instead of a true problem with the med.  Fortuneately for me they changed their minds just a few days before my protest.. SO the surgery is on again.

I actually held my weight over christmas and then found out that I had lost 3 lbs!  I am now at 257.  I am going for another 20 lb loss over the next two months which is not unrealistic.  I had had a stall after losing 28 lbs but now I find myself losing easily again. It's a good thing.

My surgery will not be till april as I have to pay a fee before I can get approved by the insurance.  Insurance approval takes a month after payment of the bill and I will be paying the bill in Mid Febuary.  Thus my surgery should be in Mid April.. LOL just in time for easter.. GREATTTTTTTTTTTT.

Anyhow.. things are changing and going well.. laterz.

Just crusing along Sept 5,2008

Sep 04, 2008

With help from the chat room I have been cruising along losing weight.  I am down by no less than 22 lbs and about 25 inches lost over all.  I haven't weighed in about 2 weeks.  I will be doing so next wednesday.  Things have been bumpy around the house but I made it through the stress and continued on my life change without a relapse into my old eating habits.

I now consider my stomach shrunk compared to what it was, the last time I ate a pizza slice I was down from my original 4 slices to about 1 1/2 slices.  I was so proud of myself and I wasn't hungry.  Although pizza is a treat now not a regular food.

My back spasms have been treated by my neurologist.  I would love to ride my bike again without any pain it would be so nice.  I still have swelling issues from water retention, however I now drink about 124 oz of water a day up from 0 when I started.  I hardly drink soda anymore and I don't crave it like I use too.  Matter of fact the last time I drank any diet soda it made my stomach icky.

So, that's how I am doing much better, with clothes fitting all around, robes closing nicely and firmly behind the drivers wheel.  I am feeling very good about myself and my progress.

I took my measurements again.  I have lost an over all of about 17 inches.  I have only lost about 19 lbs so far.  I am doing very well with inches versus pounds.

My second nutritionist appointment went very well.  I am looking forward to weiging in next wednesday will let you know how that goes.

I took all my measurements last week... I took them from my chest, ribs belly, waist, hips thighs, knees calves and biceps.  So a lot of measurements.

I lost a lot of inches,  in one week... a 1/2 inch here a 1/2 inch there for a total of  7.25 inches over my whole body!!! I am very proud of myself.

I did not lose a lot of weight this month and I won't have a total until next thursday.  The bad news is I will be swollen with water when I go cause well it sucks but my period will be 4 days away when I get there to weigh... IT SUCkS but that's how it goes sometimes.  But as of today I weigh between 2661/2 and 268 on my doctors scales!

I have been sick the last 4 days so no new bike rides I have bronchitis.  I have still been drinking water but not as much as I should.  I am still making changes in my diet to accomodate my new eating standards... Wish me luck!

Oh I am getting so my size 26 pants are baggy and I can easily wear size 24's now!!

One month update.  I have been at this for one month.  With the great support of the people around me and here on obesityhelp.com I am down 1 lbs.  Each day gets a little harder for me as I near my dreaded 56lb stall zone. I wonder will I stall?  Will I be able to keep losing or not.  I probally will never make 56 lbs lost by surgery but I am going to keep losing until surgery and see how much I can take off until then.

My nutritionist told me that it takes a 6 month diet and a additional 2 months for approval by the insurance company.  Right now I look like a good for approval.  I am following a pre-op diet.  I am allowing myself some fat and some sugar but I have kissed most of the post-op no no foods good bye.

I figure preparation may be a good thing.  This is suppose to be a lifestyle change just not a diet  for the future.   That I will go on and off of again.

I have tried the protein bars,  I have found a cheap whey protein drink I can make myself.  I am content with my food options for post-op and I think my researching is done.  I think the hardest part is in front of me and that is the waiting for the surgery.  I will do that with my chatroom buddies and hopefully we will all achieve our goals.

My nutritionist appointment. #1

Jul 01, 2008

my first nutritionist appointment went well I only have to lose 10% of my body weight to meet the requirements of my insurance and the program.  That means 28 pounds.

I have already lost 12 pounds confirmed by my physician.  I was lucky they took the weight at my last doctors visit and used it as my starting weight at the nutritionist office because I took paper work too them from my family physician confirming my weight of 282.

Due to my back and knee problems lots of exercise is out of the question.  I will have to do this through portion control and other activities not just exercising my butt off.  This is different than most other over weight people who have to do both.  I will have to become careful as I become more activity.  High activity levels are never going to be in my future however a healthy future is.

I can't wait to lose this weight.

My nutritionist also thought that I might be insulin resistant as I tend to stall at 56lbs of lost weight and cannot break the plauteu from there.  They took blood work after I fasted for 12 hours to get and insulin level and also a metabolic panel.

I am waiting for the results.

My first nutritionist appointment is on Tuesday the 24th of June.  I am ready for it I think.  I have cut way back on the fat in my diet.  I am drinking all diet drinks or low sugar drinks only when necessary.  I have began cutting back portion sizes so that  I will have less head hunger after the surgery at least I hope I will have learned how to better deal with it by the time surgery comes around.

Today I got to see the facility where I will be getting surgery it was nice and the people all seemed happy and pleasant.  I am looking forward to working with them.

I also tried stepping on my house scale for the first time in two years.  I actually weighed one pound less than it weighed.  It's maximum weight was 270.  I weighed 269.  I am not taking it as a actual weight though.

I will not consider it accurate until I weigh at the nutritionist and she says what I weigh and i compare it to what the house scale says.  Then i will know how many pounds off the scale may be.

Everyone wish me luck on my pre-op weight loss.  I am hoping to get 56 lbs off before My surgery.
