DAWN~~I'VE HAD THOUGHTS ABOUT HOW I WILL HANDLE GIVING UP MY GOOD FRIENDS (BEN & JERRY)...YOU WILL DO FINE~~May you always have an Angel by your side. Watching out for you in all the things you do. Reminding you to keep believing in brighter days. Finding ways for your wishes and dreams to come true.Giving you hope that is as certain as the sun.Giving you the strength of serenity as your guide. May you always have love and comfort and courage.

Angel hovering. I met Dawn at the first support group meeting and she is a beautiful and special woman. She will be having her surgery on June 4th with Dr Zuccala here in CT. I am honored she chose me to be her angel. She also is lucky to have befriended a recent postie that she met in the Drs office who is giving her the play by play. I wish you the best on your journey Dawn and invite others to do so.

michelle, I wish I could say people don't read that page and get scared very often, but I think every preop does it and gets scared including me. The one thing I discovered from analyzing it that many of the deaths are not a direct result of the surgery. For example, some are from other things like asthma, complications of previous illnesses like kidney problems or diabetes, blood clots which are more prevalent in persons who have been unable to walk prior to surgery. Others died years later from other causes. You have to think about how many of us would have died or become disabled by complications of MO. when I put that all in perspective, I realized the complications of the surgery which result in death due occur but rarely and the risk is worth it for me because I couldn't stand my life the way it was. It may be different for you. I was at the end of my rope and now I have a wonderful new life down 54# in 5 months and 40 to go. I feel so much better and my mental attitude is so much better. Maybe you can relate, I woke up every AM with the first thought, "You are so disgusting. You create all your own problems and all this pain is your own fault for eating." I never think that anymore. Thank God for the miracle of life every day. I wish you the same success and better.

Dawn, I too read the Memorial Page before surgery. It really scared me as well. I had to resolve NOT to look at that again before my surgery. I realized that the Memorial Page, although a great tribute, does not tell the whole story. We don't really know the medical background of the souls listed. Keeping that in mind, I realized I couldn't go off and get upset without having all the information. STOP looking at the Memorial Page (I never forget them in my heart) as it is more beneficial to focus on the POSITIVE than the "what if's". I know you will do great. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Dawn - just read your post about reading the memorial page. It is sobering isn't it? The fact is though that 90% of people go through this surgery without complications. The odds are totally with you. I haven't had a single problem since Nov. 1 and I'm down 83.5 and loving it! You will do great!
