Official Loser

Mar 24, 2008

I weighed for the first time since surgery on Friday and I have lost 12 pounds. I am very pleased. I am not going to weigh myself more than once a week. For now I still have to go to my primary care physicians office to weigh because his scale will go high enough.

I feel good enough that I think I am going to start walking today. A little exercise I am not going to over do it, but I will walk up and down the street and try to get some exercise in.

I am really happy that I did this......

Home From WLS

Mar 17, 2008

I came home on Friday after my surgery that was on Wednesday. Everything went good, It is Monday now and I feel real good. I am holding down my liquids and not having any problems using the bathroom or keeping food down. The wounds are healing and itch a little but it is not unbareable. I am still a little sore in the middle but it is not horrible pain.

I am so happy I had this done, I am extatic to see the results and hope I have great success. I know I am going to give it 100%. I can't wait to be on the losers bench, in fact I may already be there......Yeah ME!!!!!!!!!

PRE op......Check

Mar 06, 2008

Well I can check one more hurdle off the list, I did my pre op, all that is left now is waiting on my surgery day. My pre op was a lot more than I thought it would be. I really have never had surgery. I had my tonsils out when I was 12, but I do not really remember that. So I was poked and prodded yesterday. I got to Tampa General at about 11am and went to admissions, they took all my info slapped an arm bracelet on me and led me to pre op, pre op took my weight, vitals, urine, a blood test, an EXG, and X-Ray . Then I met with the Surgeon and then the Anastisiologist. The surgeon is performing some research and want to use me as one of the patients in the study so I said okay.

Tampa General is a learning hospital and their will be a resident attending during my surgery with Dr. Murr. The resident is super nice and at the end of his residency so I have the utter most confidence it will work out just fine. Anyhow, after all that I got sent to pulmonary for a blood gas test. Then I got to leave at 3pm, it took 4 hours, but that is okay. I feel like the hospital really cares about their patients everyone was so very nice to me.

I found out that Dr. Murr does not require 2 week liquid diets, he only requires that you start a liquid diet at noon the day before surgery and that you take magnesium citrate to clean out your bowels, then at midnight no food or water until sometime after surgery, like a day after. The funny thing is that is what I worry about, being thirsty, but I will get over it. I am so excited, It is finally happening in 5 more days.........

I have a date with the surgeon

Feb 27, 2008

I have  a date of 03/12/2008. Yahoooooo. Only two weeks away.

I have great news...

Feb 25, 2008

I received a letter from my insurance company in the mail yesterday, and it says YES. They have approved and authorized me to have WLS.

YAHOO.....I was approved on the first try with United Health Care and it only took 2 weeks. I can not express how happy I am about this. Now I get to schedule a true surgery date. I am so excited I can barley stand it.

The surgeon said yes

Feb 04, 2008

I met with Dr. Murr Yesterday and he said yes to me having WLS. I then met with Susan and gave her all my insurance info, she says she does not forsee a problem, but it could take up to 30 days to get my approval so I have a dummy date of 03/04/2008. That way the insurance company will get on the ball. It could be sooner, I will just have to keep my fingers crossed. I am so excited to finally be here. It has been such a long journey just to get to the starting line. I am very proud of myself that I did not give up. I usually give up on stuff, but not anymore. Strong and steady winns the race. I will keep you posted on everything.

I have a date with the surgeon

Jan 31, 2008

I got home yesterday and there it was on my voice mail, the call I have been waiting for. It was Dr. Murr's office wanting to schedule my first visit with the surgeon and ask my insurance info.

I am so happy, I am going Monday 02/04/2008 at 2:30 pm to my apointment. I have all my insurance records in line and including my very detailed 6 month diet history, severel recomendations for surgery from my GYN, Primary Care Dr. and My ARNP. I have my co morbities lined up, so United should hopefully say yes. I know it is covered I already asked and the company my husband works for did opt to keep it as a covered benefit.

I will just keep praying and pushing through. It has been working so far. Thank you God.

Still on my mission

Jan 24, 2008

I have not checked in for awhile, but I have completed everything Spectra wanted completed, including being cleared by the shrink, a sleep study, blood work, nutritionist and a 5% wieght loss, I passed it all and they have my chart ready to be sent over to the surgeon on Monday. I could do back flips just about now. I really feel like this is going to finally happen for me.

One Down 3 to Go.....

Sep 24, 2007

Well I went to the nutritionist on Friday. She was so happy with my success and following what she told me she actually cheered and hugged me. It made me feel GREAT....I lost 10 pounds too.

She approved me for surgery saying she believes I will be an excellent candidate!
Now all I have to do is get my blood work, and hope it is okay.
Get the results of my sleep apnea test (the lady there said I was good, no apnea) that is probably because I lost 10 pounds before I went.
Then the last thing is pass my physiology thing. I have an appointment with a therapist here in my town; I will see how many times she would like to see me before she gives the surgeon an OK.

I feel like this may happen before Christmas. That would be such an awesome way to start a new year.

I really do feel so much better eating this way, my moods are way up, and so is my energy.  I am really excited now, I feel like I am slowly but surely getting to my goal.

Hurdles

Sep 14, 2007

Sometimes, I wish things were easy, but I guess if everything was easy we would not appreciate things to much.

I have a sleep study scheduled, thank goodness I have a Dr. who is for my surgery and will let me fax stuff to him and schedule things through him without having to make an appointment every time. He had a death in the family though and did not schedule my blood work before he left so I have to wait until he returns to get blood work for surgery. He did though schedule my sleep study. That will be Monday at 8:30 pm, I am curious how weird this will be to have a camera in my face and be attached to a bunch of wires while I sleep.

I got the letter back from the Psychiatrist about him wanting me to have a few therapy sessions with a licensed therapist before surgery, so I have that scheduled for 10/5. I guess the ball is rolling, slowly, but rolling.

I have been following the nutritionist diet to a tee!!!! I meet with her next Friday on the 21st. I feel like I have lost weight, I cannot eat any sugar, sodas, or carbs really so I am sure I will loose weight. I have been taking all my vitamins and protein too. Keeping a journal of it all is really helping.

Anyhow that's my update, I am keeping my chin up and I will climb the hurdles as they come.
