Well, to sum it up I've always been overweight.  Even as a kid I was very overweight.  This comes from my mother's side of the family, my father's side doesn't have a problem with weight.

On 3/22/89 my mom died in her sleep.  She was 32 yrs old.  This was 6 days before my 8th birthday.  I think she was around 450-500 pounds at the time, she was unable to drive her car (Chevy Citation) because she couldn't fit between the seat and steering wheel.  She rarely left the house and hated having her picture taken (I only have 1 pic and it isn't very good).  Cause of death was heart disease.......at 32.

My maternal grandma died in late 1993 from kidney failure.  She had been a type 2 diabetic for years and she was also a pack a day smoker for at least 20 yrs (she quit smoking when my mom died).  She was also very overweight.

I have 3 family members left from my mom's side...that's it.  I can think of only 3 blood relatives on her side of the family that were not overweight (a great uncle, 1st cousin, and a 2nd cousin).  The great uncle lived a long life and the 2nd cousin had a stroke at 40 yrs old that killed him.  My 25 yr old cousin is lucky enough to not have a problem with weight but his mom has one and so does our uncle.

So, seeing as I am already 27 yrs old I know that things will only get worse.  I've tried and failed in the past so I think this is my last option to get healthy.

In Jan 08 I filled out the insur application and received approval for the pre-surgical bariatric program.  I'm working with a case manager and was required to lose 16 pounds within 6 months of having my phone consult.  So far the timeline has been:
Jan 08 - approved into insur pre-surg program
Mar 19, 2008 - met 16 pound goal
April 15, 2008 - went to seminar
May 13-14, 2008 - went to medical, psych, nutrition, and pt appts.  Cleared by each provider.  Also, I had my sleep study done in July 2007 so I didn't need to have another one done.
May 30, 2008 - chart sent from above appts to surgeon's office.

Now I'm waiting to hear from the surgeon's office to make my appt.  They said the sched is pretty open and that they would probably contact me on June 2 or 3.  I'm hoping to have the surgery in mid-late July.
