Surgery was a success. Fortunately, Dr. Opie was able to do it laproscopically. I only spent 2 nights in the hospital. I still have a fair amount of pain but it is well controlled with medication. Today is the third day. I was out of bed all day. I will be attending the support group meeting this evening. More soon.

Well, it’s official! You’re on the losing side. The trumpets are blaring, the cymbals are crashing and the drums are drumming – all for YOU! I hope that all went well for you! Your journey will have moments to “pause” - Feel free to look at my profile and see my ups and downs and know I’d not change a thing with anything I’ve experienced. Everything was worth it! – I’d like to impart some words of wisdom for when it does occur - remember these wise words whispered by Confucius – “It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.” Be patient. You didn’t put it on over night, it won’t come off over night (DARN IT!)…Don’t forget to update your profile at least monthly and take lots of pictures…the transformations will make your jaw drop!!! RNY 10/31/03 257/133 Good luck!

Alex, you hang in there. The C-Pap machine will make a world of difference to you. I have several family members who use one, I wasn't bad enough to need the machine but did have the sleep apnea, since the weight loss I don't have the problem at all anymore. With that machine, your recovery will be much easier on you as you will be getting all the oxygen your body needs and getting the sleep you will need to heal. Let us know when they big day is, you know your are in our prayers and thoughts. Even if I have to kind of lean over and type right now due to a circle of stitches!!! HAHA. I will keep up with you!

Hard to believe - my surgery has been postponed! During my sleep study on Monday, they determined that my apnea is severe and that I need to get on Bi-PAP treatment. Since one apparently swallows a lot of air into the stomach when one first begins this therapy, my surgeon decided that I need to be on Bi-PAP for at least 2 weeks, New plan - I just picked up the equipment and will begin treatments tonight. I have an appointment with the pulmonologist on 10-10 and with the surgeon on 10-11. I am told it is possible, that I may be scheduled for surgery on 10-17. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts. I will keep you updated.

Alex, to a fellow Kansan, I wish you the best on your surgery and recovery. May God guide your surgeon's hands. Just remember to get up and walk, walk, walk as soon as you can. Do everything the surgeon tells you and you will be fine. Have faith. Let us know how you are doing as soon as you can. --Kina

Sending thoughts and prayers for an uneventful surgery. For the steady hands of your surgeon and the alertness of his team. For a virtually pain free recovery and a return home with a speedy recovery. Here's to becoming a BIG loser! paula
