New Developments in Cynthia’s progress: Cynthia was moved to a private room because her ‘roomie’ was keeping her awake all night. Apparently they use 6-CVA for more than ‘just’ WLS patients, because Cynthia was in a room with an elderly woman who became combative with the nurses and screamed all night long. :- { Anyway, she’s got peace and quiet now but she’s experiencing quite a bit of pain now. Cynthia was waiting for her ‘happy juice’ for the pain. She also has a slight fever. There was also a fever yesterday but I forgot to mention it to you as it was back down by the time we spoke. So, her temp is going up and down and the pain management that was working yesterday is not working today. Dr. McConnell thinks she may have an infection so she’s on antibiotics. Her sister, Gloria said that that she will probably be discharged on Sunday or Monday, depending on how the fever goes. However, she says that Cynthia looks great! I know that for me, that’s reassuring news. I’ll talk to Cynthia tomorrow and let you all know how she’s doing. Day 3 UPDATE    Hi Friends; Here’s the latest report on Cynthia. She was moved from ICU to 6-CVA which is the Medical/Surgical floor used exclusively for WLS patients. The pain management is successful finally. Yea! Cynthia’s feeling pretty good now. She’s been eating ice chips for thirst and had broth and Jell-O for dinner tonight. She mentioned that everything had a metallic taste to it. Gayle commented that the same was true for her for 6 months before it finally went away. Cynthia’s blood pressure was a bit high last night. Fortunately, it’s come down to a more reasonable 148/74. Her ‘spirometer’ (sp?) is up to 2,250. I’m told that this is very good. It indicates that her breathing is very effective; that she’s getting plenty of air in each breath. She was having problems with her anti-itch medication; it was putting her to sleep, so now she has a patch behind her ear. No itch; no sleepiness; happy girl ;-) She was feeling so good today that she was wearing make-up. And, she’s been walking up a storm! She’s probably walking more 2 days after surgery than I do now! ;-} Among her walking destinations was a visit to Melissa. Cynthia walked on down to see Melissa and they had a nice visit. Another highlight is a sky-bridge at the hospital near 6-CVA. Cynthia has been enjoying walking down to the sky-bridge; when she gets to the bridge there is a bench where she and her husband Mariano can sit together. They can chat and enjoy the beautiful scenery outside. Cynthia mentioned that the beds are awesome. She tried to explain them to me but my imagination wasn’t up to the task of visualizing them. She said they are airbeds that adjust to a person’s weight. The foot of the bed has a gate that flips down so a patient can sit on the end of the bed with the rest of the bed in an upright position (I think). Kudos also goes to the nursing staff. Cynthia has been just thrilled with their attentiveness and support. She particularly wanted to thank Nurse Kirsten. Cynthia says she’s a standout. Cynthia also enjoyed a visit from Randy Peck who brought her a lovely Easter Bunny. Way to go Randy!! Cynthia thanks you for the cute bunny. This is the Cynthia report for today. I’ll check-in tomorrow for new developments. Hugs to one & all ~ gobo "Sometimes We Never Know How We Influence the Lives of Others, Yet We Touch Those Lives Just the Same"

Hi all! I just spent 25 minutes talking to Cynthia Lopez on the phone and she’s doing great! :-) Here are the details as she relayed them to me: <sum> She got to "A.M. Admits" by 6:00 AM. <sum> The less-than-spectacular Admitting Clerk told her to go sit down; that she would not be called until 9:00 AM. <sum> Being resourceful, Cynthia took out the letter she had received from Dr. Deviny’s office and reread the portion that said, "Be at A.M. Admits NO LATER THAN 6:45 AM. <sum> Cynthia, ever the relentless problem solver, took the letter back to the Admitting Clerk. <sum> The Admitting Clerk said, "I’m busy; I don’t need to see that; Go sit down again." <sum> A minute later, the Admitting Clerk said, "Ooh, maybe I DO need to see that." <sum> By 7:00 A.M. Cynthia was admitted and in Pain Management where her big day really got going. <sum> She got an epidural, which she says, hurt. She also said that it caused back spasms. This is not good because Cynthia has been having back pain for some time now. <sum> She was in surgery from 10 AM – 1 PM. <sum> Her COMMON CHANEL is 90 cc. <sum> They removed her APPENDIX but left her GALL BLADDER because in Dr. Deviny’s words, "it looked quite healthy." <sum> Cynthia said that they found a bit of scar tissue, presumably from a previous hysterectomy. <sum> She’s experiencing stomach spasms which is no fun at all. <sum> Her arms are both numb. The nurses say that this happens sometimes with the epidural. Cynthia says "Thanks for all the beautiful private emails she’s been getting. You guys are totally awesome. Your thoughts have really made a difference." Hugs to all~ gobo Cynthia's angel.
