Well i am out and have made it to the other side as WLS patients like to say. I am up early this morning because I am excited to go for my one week check(actually a day early). I also get to get my drain out today. Whew...what a relief that will be. As of this morning on my scale I am down 13 lbs in 7 days. I am and will be on liquids for the next 5 weeks. Basically it sucks! Here is a quick update on how my surgery went. Thank you for all the heart felt prayers. I could truly feel them. I have never experienced such a feeling before in my life. Thank you!
As far as surgery - things went pretty smooth, just not perfect. Pre-surgery was fine and I did great in recovery. Once I got into my room I just slept on and off the whole day. (my surgery was @9:30am) I was never in much pain as far as my stomach was concerned but my shoulders were killing me. It felt like my collar bone had been broken and I could barely move. Not too bad just thought I would warn you. I read so much before hand but I never came across this bit of info. Anyway the next day rolled around and I soon realized the smallest drink of anything caused the most unbelievable pain. It felt like the worst case of indigestion and heartburn put together along with this unbearable amount of tightness that made me feel as if I couldn't breathe. I told the nurse and they had me taken in to do this wonderful x-ray that all patients do, you drink this awful liquid and they lay you on your sides (owww) to see if the fluid is moving correctly or not. As you might suspect mine was not moving at all. DR, Naaman was heading out of town so he called in two other DR. S to take care of things.
I sat in my bed crying in pain for a good two hours and there was nothing that seemed to make it better that is until I finally threw-up! Thank God! Long story short over the next day I began being able to drink tiny amounts at a time and the specialist decided that my problem was caused by swelling from the surgery and not a blockage. Needless to say I was in the hospital for 4 days during which time I had the IV the entire time, I got no sleep and was more than ready to come home. The care was fabulous, Marie, Ike, and Debbie were my favorite nurses.
I am going for my one week visit tomorrow and I am eager to see what DR Naaman say. I still think that I might have a small blockage or something because I take in very little and I have thrown up 4 times in 3 days. I am having 1/4 a cup of broth for B,L, and D and I am have fluids in between. Two of the times I got sick, I can find a reason for.
1. I had 3/4 cup of broth instead of a 1/4
2. I decided that I could put a "BITE" of brownie in my mouth, chew and spit! NOT!!!!!!!
The other two times, one being this morning, I woke up had a small glass of tea and after 4-5 sips that was all she wrote. Go figure.
By the way I am mentally doing very good and I have a great ooutlook on the whole thing. My husband keeps worrying and I just keep reminding him that I'll figure it out one day!
I still have pretty good energy and I do not feel faint. I cannot wait to get this tube out today. And besides that things are AOK.
By the way I am down 13lbs on my scale at home. We'll see the real #'s tomorrow at Dr. naaman's.
Hope that helps let me know if you have any other questions.
