Oh, Eric, I'm so sorry it's been such a battle for you. You celebrate those 30 pounds - you sure earned them - and prepare for more to come! (Or go) Hopefully things will get easier as the days pass.

Just a quick update. When I can stand to sit at the computer for a longer period, I'll fill in all the details... Although I started off as the model patient, I ended up with complications that kept me in the hospital 8 days. 8 long days. The connection between my new pouch and the small intestine ended up so swollen, that it wasn't letting anything pass through, including my own saliva. I'll save the gross details for later, but you can imagine, if it won't go down, it has to come up. I was pretty sick for a couple of days, and was definitely in the "what the hell have I done to myself" mode. Although I'm home, the doctor still only has me on clear liquids. The opening is still small, but it is allowing things to pass, slowly. We will wait, adding foods back slowly, which is why I'm still on clear liquids, and see if the swelling goes down enough. Otherwise, he'll scope me and dialate the opening himself. Tell me if that doesn't sound like fun. I've been home two days. So far, so good. I'm increasing my water intake. He wants me at 5 ounces per hour. I'm hoping to do 4 today. Handled 3 yesterday pretty well. The really good news....In those 8 days at the hospital, I lost 30 pounds. Every single one of those pounds were hard earned, and I'll take them.

Eric, Thanks for the good wishes for my surgery. I am home now and the surgery went quite well. The doctor told me my stomach was slightly misshapen and turned a little, so the surgery took a little longer than normal. I came home yesterday, but to be honest, I wish I'd stayed in the hospital a little longer. The care was excellent and I felt very confident and comfortable there. I'm very nervous being home. Weighing and measuring foods and no nurse or morphine pump. Anyway, what I really wanted to say was I hope everything went well for you too and I wish you the best of luck in your recovery. Stay in touch and we can compare our progression and be moral support for each other.
