Melanie-50lbs in one month! WOW! I wish I had lost it so fast. The tiredness should ease up some time this month. I was about 6 weeks about before I felt better. Keep up the great work!

This is Me!!!!!!!!! I finially feel strong enough to update for myself. I first want to thank everyone that called and posted to my page. Your prayers truly helped save my life. My surgery was done successfully at Norton's Hosptial in Louisville Ky on June 25th.. open RNY. The problem started when I had an allergic reaction to the pre-surgery/post-surgery antibotic..called Cefle T Tan. This antibotic has a very high reaction rate so please please ask your doctor not to use it. It attacked my red blood cells causing hemolytic anemia. It caused my red blood cells to attack theirselves. This is so dangerous. First I had a pulmomary embolism but the doctor still discharged me. I was home 3 days on oxycontin and percoset in severe pain with a fever and finially the doctor told me to come back in that something was not right. I went back in and coded 3 times. My red blood count was 3.37 normal is about 11 or so. They put me on a vent and i had 3 ports in my neck. I had blood transfusions on 4 or 5 different days. Some days I had 4-5 units and others only 2 or 3. The worst part about it is that my feet are killing me from the steriods they swelled up and busted. They started giving me diliduad iv but it didnt even help the pain.. the funny thing is my belly did not even hurt from the surgery. Anyway to make a long story short.. I begged to be discaharged and my RBC is upto 11 but I still have a very small amount of the reaction antibotics in my blood and have to have blood work again today and be transfused again in Louisville on Tuesday. MY spleen is still very enlarged and hurts alot but I am hoping to avoid having it removed. I have to take 60 mgs of steriods a day for the next 2 months so my doctor said my weight loss would be slow. I have lost alot of hair but have still lost 32 lbs in the last 16 days which includes the fluid i gained after surgery. I weight 280 this morning. I can eat anything. Bread or sweets do not bother me.. More later... sorry this is rambling its the pain medication.. Melanie

I called to check on Melanie tonight. She couldn't talk, but who ever answered the phone said that she was discharged from the hospital yesterday and was feeling a little better today.

Melanie, Karen G has made many of us aware of your struggles, and I just want you to know that even though you don't know many of us personally, there is a personal connection between us nonetheless, as we all share the common goal of a permanent weight loss solution. Don't lose sight of that, and good luck to you. Becky
