Elizabeth – Congratulations on your unexpected approval! (Happy dancing for you!) What a tremendous gift this must seem, after having already accepted the insurance denial. You just concentrate on all of the things that lie ahead and let your family catch up! May God bless you!

Elizabeth - I was reading your nightmare with Aetna. I am having the same problem, only my bmi is 55. I was told point blank by one of their reps that "I was just fat and needed to learn to lose the weight on my own.". If I wasn't in shock!! I fortunately have a secondary insurance that will pay it in full. Thank goodness. Good luck to you. Missi

Elizabeth-I'm doing the happy dance for you tonight. That is outstanding news! Please keep us posted and I'm sure your family will come around. There are so many of us here that are very happy we did this and our families are too. After all, they will also reap the benefits of doing things with you that you never thought possible. You are in my prayers.

I'm 5' 3 and 228, just a little over 40 BMI. My insurance went right through. I too am scared to death to have this done, especially when you see someone like Melanie at 33 yrs. loose her life. From what I could see, she had an open operation because her insurance wouldn't pay for a RNY. I may be wrong though. I am due for surgery 10\1. I read all the memorials before deciding to have the surgery, dumb huh?? Then I read everything printed about my doctor and the hospital and went into see how long he had been doing the surgeries and how many. The mortality rate is less than 1%. With all that I decided to put my faith in God and have it done. Just had to write to you since you seem to have less to loose like me and also are worried about the risk. Sandi
