Tar-Mac
Hi, my name is Amy. I am a 30 year old gal from MI. I have been overweight since high school and have finally given in and opened my mind to the idea of weight loss surgery. I am currently at 298 lbs., 5'-8" tall, with a medium frame.
My wife and I have been together for a couple years now and she has always threatened to have bariatric surgery. I always said "NO WAY!" I have always been afraid of the horror stories you hear that go along with these type of surgeries and feared losing her. Then she started telling me a little about lap band. We planned to go to one of the bariatric centers seminars to learn more and she ended up having to work that night. I went anyway with a couple other friends that were also considering it. Well, being that she wasn't there, they wouldn't give me an extra packet of paperwork for her to fill out, so I began to fill it out in my name.
That seminar taught me a ton! It opened my eyes and I realized how much safer these surgeries are nowadays, and the differance between bypass and banding and thier effects. This site has taught me even more! It has taught me what to expect before, during and after surgery and how to handle a ton of differant obstacles that might come up not only physically, but also mentally. I thank all of you for the support you give here!
A while after the seminar, I still hadn't completed my paperwork. I had an appt. coming up with my pcp and wanted to cover other issues with her before deciding if lap banding was or me. At that appt., my doc set me up to have a sleep study. Lone behold - I have severe sleep apnea (a co-morbidity to add to my packet). So since being set up with my CPAP, I had scheduled another appt. w/my pcp. She doesn't seem to be very knowledgable about bariatric surgeries, (having only had dealt with one other patient having this surgery), but has written the referral letter for me nontheless.
Last week, I completed my information packet and delivered it to the bariatric center for review and insurance approval. Now I am inpatiently in the waiting process. They said they'd call next week. I'll be checking on them!
My wife Rebecca and I went to another seminar so she could get her information packet. She almost has it completed and doc has written her a referal letter also. Just need to get it handed in.
