i'm on the schedule for october 18!!

i barely slept a wink last night. gerry called me at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon to tell me that my precertification was in and that i was a definite on the schedule for wednesday, october 18th!! i immediately called my husband and asked him to be sure that he took off for wednesday because i'm a sure thing. then i called to tell my mom and dad... then my mother-in-law, then my sisters, then my sisters-in-law, and then a couple of close friends. everyone was so excited for me. of course they all had all sorts of questions, so i ended up on the phone for the entire evening. i am sooooo excited. i can not believe that this is finally going to happen for me. it is something that i have thought about for so long.
tonight i will go to a support group meeting at hahnemann hospital. they have open meetings, i wouldn't be able to go to another one at pennsylvania hospital until the end of the month, and i need one more before surgery. i am hoping that my daughter will go with me. or... since she went with me to the last one, maybe i will ask my son to come to this one with me. i doubt if he will want to because he has night classes every other night of the week but it's worth a shot to ask him. i just don't like to go into philadelphia when i don't really know where i am going. i will call later this morning for directions, and hope that it will be easy and have parking close by.
p.s. i can't wait until the 18th!!!!!

grrrrr, i wish time would fly! just for the next couple of days. today will be spent waiting. at least i have my eagles to watch this afternoon. it should be an interesting game with t.o. back in town with the cowboys. e-a-g-l-e-s....eagles!!!
my husband asked me this morning if i wanted to go to atlantic city next saturday night for dinner and we'll get a suite at the borgota and stay until sunday afternoon. of course i said yes. i'm sure we will have dinner at the steak house, and it will most likely be my last steak for quite a while. i don't think that i have to do any kind of prep diet for my surgery with dr. schuricht. he said not to come down with "last supper syndrome" where you eat everything in sight, but he did say to go and enjoy some of your favorites before surgery. he stressed how benificial losing some weight before surgery can be, because most of the weight will come off of your liver, so i am really trying to watch. i think i am down about 6 pounds so far, so i hope to be down 8-10 befor my surgery if it is in fact on the 18th. if it is later, i'm sure i will lose more.
i am obcessed with the before and after pictures on this website. i wonder how i will look in 6 months, but i think even more than that, i wonder how i will feel. i am so looking forward to not being so lazy and tired all of the time. i would love to be able to get out of bed in the morning without dreading having to take a shower and wash and dry my hair. i don't even feel like going and having my hair colored or getting a manicure and pedicure because i hate to be sitting for that length of time, my back bothers me so. i can't wait to have the strength and stamina to do things around the house again. even the simple things have gotten to be such a struggle. ok, enough whining... i've got to get that shower so i can watch my eagles womp the cowboys.

well, i made it through the waiting today. i have to say that i am really anxious and spend a lot of my day reading other profiles and looking at a lot of before and after pictures. i can't wait to hear from gerry on tuesday, and i am already counting down to my "possible" surgery date. i know that it will be a major disappointment for me if i have to wait past october 18th. best of luck to anyone reading that is having surgery soon. night all.

well, all of my paperwork that i ran around for all week is in the hands of gerry at my surgeon's office. the only thing she still needs is my cardio clearance letter, and my psych letter, but they are both definite yeses!!! she really does have me penciled in for the 18th of october. i saw it with my own eyes. all i have left to do now is to get to the support group at hannemahn on tuesday night of next week, and then on monday the 16th i will have my nutrition class and pre-op testing done. she said i will be first on the schedule on wednesday morning, and will have to be at the hospital at 6am. i am so excited. i called my husband on my way home and asked him to put the date on his calendar at work and to take the day off. he is wonderfully supportive, and so are my mother and mother-in-law. my older sister worries and wonders if i should wait for that "new diet pill that is comminmg out in 2007", and my younger sister is all for it, because she has had several patients that have gone through it with amazing success. i will talk to my dad about it after i am approved. i'm sure he will be behind me, but may think i am taking the "easy way out". we'll see, i had decided not to tell anyone untill i was approved, but i feel so close, and am getting so excited, that i just can't wait. my kids, 21 and 20 are also very supportive.
gerry said that she will call me by tuesday for sure... i can't wait!

wenesday, october 4, 2006 early eve.
i had my pulmonary appt. today, and was cleared for wls. that was the last approval that i needed, so i really feel like i am on my way. the only thing to do now is drop off all of my clearance letters and chart notes to gerry on friday. after that, i only have to do one more support group meeting (planned for tuesday night, october 9th), and then once i get my date, i will only need my nutrition class and my pre-op lab work.
tomorrow will fly by i hope, i am having my scopes done, so i am hoping to be asleep for a lot of the day. (i'm still struggling now to finish all of the prep liquids. they don't taste badly at all, i am just so full. i have about 12 more ozs. to get down, and i have already had 20 oz. i bought some wonton soup broth for dinner, but i don't know if i will have room for it!
p.s. thanks again apple pie for changing my allignment issues!

i can't sleep, so i thought i might as well update now. yesterday i had my psych eval. it went well and she told me that she would clear me for surgery. woohoo...
i also stopped at my pcp's office and got my records from the past two years, and my letter of clearance from her. i also got my records from the "fitsmart" diet that i did from feb. until may. today i am on a clear liquid diet and then tonight i start the bowl prep for my colonoscopy and endoscopy. i am gagging already just thinking about the concoction that i have to drink 8 oz. of every 15 minutes for two hours. yuck! i hope i can stomach it. i'm still hoping to get all of my paperwork in on friday morning.
i have to try to get a couple hours of sleep. i will update again when i get all of my paperwork in and find out about how long gerry from dr. schuricht's office thinks it will take to hear from my insurance. night all.

today i had my cardiologist appt., and was told that i could pick up my clearance letter by wednesday. woohoo, two clearances down, and two to go, three if i count the gastroenterologist. tomorrow is my psych eval... i'm a little nervous for that one.
today was yom kippur, a jewish high holy day, so i fasted from dinner last night until dinner tonight. then we break the fast with bagels and fish. it always tastes so good, but tonight for some reason i ate much less than i usually do. according to the scale at the drs. office today, i was down 6 and a half pounds from last thursday. i thought surely the scale was way off, then i stopped for an anesthesia consult for my scopes, and they weighed me, and i was down 11 and a half pounds from last thursday. where were all of these wacky scales before? i am anxious to get on the scale at my wl surgeons office when i drop off my paper work on friday. untill then, i'm not changing my ticker. i'm sure i didn't lose 6 pounds, and even surer that i didn't lose another 5 in the two hours between my dr. visits today. it was fun though to tell them what my weight was, and then have it be so much lower. that usually never happens for me. at least not in the "less than" direction.

i am 48 years old and have always had a weight problem. i am married with two grown children. my daughter is 21, teaches pre-school and is engaged to be married (yes, we like him very much!), my son is 20 and is still in college, majoring in english and business. i have been at a decent weight 4 times in my life... unfortunately, i would never keep it off any longer than 6-8 months.
on thursday, september 28th, i had my consult with my surgeon. i had already attended the mandatory education seminar, and one of the two mandatory support group sessions. i was able to schedule all of my necessary appointments for next week. i.e.: cardiology, pulmonary, and psych. i also had an endoscopy and colonoscopy already scheduled for next thursday. i have also called my pcp and requested my chart notes with weight and weight loss attempts included for the past two years. i also put a call in to the program that i did with a nutritionist and nurse at our gym. i should be able to have all of my paperwork into the surgeon's office on friday morning, and they said that they would send it in right away. my surgeon is scheduling now for the end of october, however, he will be on vacation the week of the 23rd. they do have an opening available for the 18th, so if my insurance approval is fast, i could be on my way to a healthier life in about 3 1/2 weeks. woohooo!!!
i can't weight to get off of my c-pap machine, and my hbp meds, and high cholesterol meds. i have a lot of back and joint trouble and have had 3 spine surgeries. i am hoping that together with my latest surgery (i have an artificial disc in my lower back) and the loss of weight i will feel much better and be able to become more active.
