i went in for my two week post-op check up today and had my first official weigh-in. i was hoping for more, but i only lost ten pounds since my surgery date. oh well, i started walking yesterday, so that should help, and the fact that i was in the hospital again last week and npo with lots of fluids could have contributed to the slow loss. i don't have to go back to see my surgeon again for two months. woohoo, clean bill of health!

i just got home from the hospital again at about 12:30pm today. i went back to the er on thursday at the request of my surgeon's partner. i went in for pain in my mid abdomen on my left side. i was in the er form 12:30pm until i was finally told at about 6pm that i would be admitted, but it took until after 9pm to get me into a room , so i just laid around in the er. they did do an "obstruction" series of x-rays, and then a ct scan. it turned out that i had a "colllectioin of fluid" right in the area of the pain, and so they thought that they would have interventional radiology drain it, but radiology thought that it was too small to drain, and they just wanted to let it dissapate on it's own. the surgical team said ok, but they kept me to be sure that all was ok. i stayed on toradol for a while, and they had me on two iv antibiotics just in case of infection. they didn't feed me until saturday at lunch, but i was on iv fluids the entire time. i had gone onto full liguids on last monday and tuesday, but then only had water on wednesday because i was afraid, and thursday the er had me npo (nothing by mouth). soooo, finally saturday afternoon i had clear liquids, and then full liquids for dinner and breakfast, and then they released me at about 1:30pm today. i'm not really in pain anymore, just a lot of discomfort if i move or press on that area. i don't like pain pills, so i have just been taking tylenol since i have been home.

i arrived at the surgeon's office to fight with the insurance company at 8am on wednesday. it took until 2pm for my insurance company to "reconsider" and approve my surgery. i was very lucky to have a surgeon that was willing to wait for me. so, at 3pm i was wheeled into the operating room. i just got home at about 8:30pm. i did need to spend an extra day, due to a fever. i got to see michelle while i was there... although, i have to say, she snuck out without a goodbye (i must have been sleeping). i had a wonderful roommate, who i hope will be leaving the hospital tomorrow morning (in time to watch the eagles). she is a day behind me surgery wise, and she also had a fever, so she ended up with an extra day. i am really tired, so it is off to bed for me. i'll post more later. as far as i know, everything went just the way it was supposed to go, except for the damn fever, that i got from margie ~ just kidding roomie!

well, i am showered and ready for surgery, and on my way to the surgeon's office to fight with the insurance company. i have been on the phone with them through the night, and they still can't find a denial or even anything pending approval. what do they do, hit the delete button as soon as they deny you?? oh well, wish me luck. on a brighter note, i was able to lose 12 pounds since my initial consult.

i just wanted to let everyone know that my surgery is cancelled for tomorrow. i am so bummed. the insurance company called the surgeon's office at 4:55pm today, and by the time gerry got off of the phone with them and called me it was 5:05pm. and you all know what that means... the insurance company doesn't answer the phone!!!! i called the emergency page number for an expedited appeal, and they can't find any denial or anything that is pending approval. so... my butt will be in my surgeon's office tomorrow morning at 8:30am when they open to sit in gerry's office and call the medical director of horizon to re-send everything over there, and hope that htey will overturn the denial. if they do, dr. schuricht said that he would do my surgery at 11am instead of 8am. so, i won't be able to update if they go ahead and take me tomorrow. if i get denied again, i will update tomorrow afternoon. then my new date would be oct. 30th. please keep your fingers crossed that you don't hear from me tomorrow. and thank you to everyone that has sent me such wonderful well wishes.
p.s. i was denied for psych reasons they said... although my pshych letter was a letter of clearance for the surgery. that is why everyone is so shocked that it was denied. i even left a message for the psych dr. that i had my eval with, and she called me back at 6:30 tonight telling me that she has no idea why a medical director would have overturned her decision. ugh... what a mess.

you're only a day away!!! i got up singing this morning. i am on my way out to buy my vitamins and get a few groceries. i have a lot to do today, so the day will probably fly by. i am so excited, i do have butterflies in my stomach, but the good kind, like when you are going on vacation.
i'll update again tonight. i just wanted to let everyone know how joyfull i feel this morning.

monday, october 16, 2006 late evening
today i spent the day in the city for my nutrition class and then my pre-op testing. i was there just about all day, but i did meet lots of nice women that are going through the same process that i am. i will be the soonest surgery out of the group that i met, but most will be done by the end of october or early november. i went to my surgeons office today to sign my consent papers. there may be a glitch, but i am keeping my fingers crossed. gerry said that she hasn't heard from the insurance company yet. ugh... i did not want to hear that. she did say though, that no news is usually good news, and that she has a call in to them, and should hear by tomorrow. arlene in the pre-cert department said not to worry, because i had more than enough proof of medical necessity and diet history. i just would really be sooooo disappointed if it has to be postponed. please keep your fingers and toes crossed for me. i'll update again tomorrow. gerry said that she will call me between 12 and 2 and tell me what time to come in on wednesday morning. she is assuming that it will be 6:30 or 7:00am. untill then...

oh, i am sooooo excited. i can not believe that this is finally going to happen. wednesday is right around the corner.
this weekend my husband and i went to atlantic city for a quick night away before my surgery. we had a wonderful time, that could have only been made better if we had left with some of their money, instead of leaving our money there. we were comped for a great show (paul anka was amazing, i can't believe all of the songs he wrote for other stars), we had a beautiful room for the night, and a great dinner at their famous steakhouse. unfortunately we got a late start because i had to take my dog to an emergency animal hospital (let's just say she had "dumping syndrome" symptoms). she got some sub-q fluids and an antibiotic, and the vet said it was ok to leave her overnight (of course, i had my daughter come and check on her). since we left much later than planned, we ended up having dinner after the show at 11pm. way to late for me, so we just had salad and shrimp. after dinner is when we made our deposits at the gaming tables. boohoo. oh well, we don't go very often.
my daughter and future son-in-law came to watch the first half of the eagles game with us this afternoon. they brought me the coolest jersey. i have wanted an eagles jersey for a while, and they were at a flea market and picked one up for me. it is a real one, and they only had to pay $40 for it, so i'm sure it fell off of a truck somewhere. i don't know how these people get these things to sell, but i really don't think i want to. anyway, it is the white jersey like they wore today, and it is jevon kearse's number 93. it is sweet, but i don't know if i can wear it for the next game since they lost today, but i just might have to because it is so nice.
i ordered some more protien samples today. i went to bariatrics.com and ordered their large sample pack. it has the book and the exercise video in it, and lots of samples. i had it sent "3 day ups", so it should be here when i get home from the hospital, which i am assuming will be friday afternoon.
my house is a mess... tomorrow i need to spend the day in the city for my nutrition class from 9am til 12:30pm, and then my pre-op testing at 2pm. tuesday my daughter is going to come over and help me get ready. i need to really clean my carpets well with the machine since my dog was sick.. i did spot clean everything, but it isn't good enough for me. then we will clean out my fridge and she will help me fold and put away some laundry. i can't wait until i can do all of these things on my own without getting so winded and having pain in my back and my legs.
best of luck and a speedy recovery to everyone else that are re-starting their lives this week. i'm not a bit worried or scared, i really just can't wait to start this new journey.

dinner at "the pub"

tonight my husband and i went to dinner at "the pub" so that i could have ribs. mmm, they were good. i brought half of them home for my son, but the dog stole them off of the counter and enjoyed them for herself. my daughter and future son-in-law went with us. we had a good time and laughed a lot.
last night i drove to my mom and dad's house in delaware for dinner. i had asked my mom to make me her spaghetti and oil, and of course she abliged. my sisters and my neice were there too. it was a nice evening and everyone is really excited for me. my surgeon doesn't have his patients do any kind of diet before surgery, although he does ask you not to gain weight, and to try to lose some. i think i am doing alright. even when i want to eat my favorite things, i rarely eat as much as i normally would. i probably won't eat anything heavy after the weekend. i really wish that wednesday was tomorrow. i am so excited to start this part of my life.
i ordered some "hank's protien" samples today. i hope i like them. if anyone has a favorite protien source, please email me with it. i don't think that i will really like any of them, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
it's getting late, and i need to get to sleep. night all.

i went to my second required support group meeting tonight. one more thing to cross off of my list of things to get done before surgery. the only things left are the mandatory nutrition class and my pre-op testing, and both of those are scheduled for monday. i can't believe that this time next week i will be going to bed and waking up in the morning early to go to the hospital. woohooooo, just one week from tomorrow!!!
