I am a lifelong severe asthmatic, and was on steroids for 27 years. I managed my weight without too much trouble until Jan. 2000, when I broke my neck. I was left partially paralyzed and unable to keep up all the activity that had described my life as a wife, mother and company executive.
I spent eight weeks in bed after having my vertebrae fused, and the combination of pain, inability to move and self-pity caused me to eat everything that wasn't moving. My weight ballooned to 330, which added a whole new set of problems. I managed to lose 100 lbs. on my own almost ten years ago, but I was unable to keep up the diet and to lose more. When the weight began to come back, I knew I needed help.
In 2016, I decided that I would have RNY surgery. I found a program, at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, did all the classes and prep work, but had to put off my surgery for family reasons. Now, I'm back, and scheduled for surgery on 4/20/2017! I'm a little scared, but can't wait for my weight to drop and to help resume being the active woman I was. I know I can't fix everything, but I can fix this.
