I've been on "the husky side" every since I was a kid. I always hated when someone called me husky. Through high school I looked pretty good even though I always felt bigger than everyone else. Now what I wouldn't give to look like that again. Single parenting and just keeping the bills paid has led me into a life of eating when I'm stressed out, and has landed me to a size I never thought I would be in. I have some comorbidities hypertension, depression, chronic back pain, and now cardiac problems, and was told I would be diabetic if the weight did not come off according to my lab values and some noted insulin resistance that is going on.
Now, I'm trying to renew my thinking and make changes that will stick with me for a lifetime. I have visted 2 surgeons regurading Roux-Y and have decided to used Toby Broussard. I have had a sleep study done to find out Ihave sleep apnea, and am now on a CPAP machine at night.I visited with the psychologist as required prior to surgery and checked out okay for the surgery in that department. I had cardiology work-up and a stress test that led me to an angiogram. I discovered at that point that I have a 50% blockage and now is the time to make some changes. I was put on toprol and fish oil capsules to help lower my LDL cholesterol. I am taking vitamins calcium, and a multivitamin daily as directed from the nurse practitioner in preparation for surgery. I am exercising every day walking for 30 min (a mile daily) and doing workout for 49 min daily at Tan and Tone America. I have to lose a total of 30 lbs before surgery and I am down 10 so far. I'm drinking lots of cold water!
I'm so excited to have a chance at getting this surgery! I'm also so emotional about it. Our insurance at work changed in January this year and I had Blue Cross Blue Shield and was meeting all of the insurance requirements and lacked 2 months before having met their requirements when my insurance changed. In our manuals we were given it did state that weight loss surgery was not covered . However, I am finding out that it has been covered in some cases if medically necessary and I am hoping to get a yes from them. I had lost about 16 lbs towards my goal of 30 lbs prior to surgery when the insurance change took place and I lost hope and gained it back. When I discovered there still was a possibility for a yes I cracked down and started hitting the water, excecise and 1200 cal diet. I'm just waiting for the new me. The girl I want to be and used to be. I love life, and I want to live!
The big stressor for me now is the wait for an answer from my insurance company which is United Healthcare. I have completed all the requirements
