He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and then studied art in New York City for a year prior to entering Cornell University Medical College. After his third year of medical school, he spent a year in France conducting endocrinolgy research, returning to Cornell for his fourth year to receive his Doctorate of Medicine with membership in the honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He proceeded to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to commence his general and plastic surgery training, interrupting it to spend two years at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Shriners Burns Institute as a surgical research fellow studying skin tissue engineering. He then returned to Pittsburgh to finish his plastic surgery fellowship. Upon completion of his training he was appointed assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He remained there as an attending surgeon for three years prior to joining the plastic surgery division as an assistant professor at University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He is also currently the chief of the Cleveland VA Hospital division of plastic surgery. He is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with clinical interests in the broad field of plastic surgery including, aesthetic, breast and body contouring and reconstruction, pediatric, hand and microvascular surgery. His research interests include the general area of wound healing with specific interests in tissue engineering, skin substitutes and cutaneous gene therapy.
