I have nothing but a glowing review for my experience with Dr. Alvarez and his team :) Susan, my first contact was wonderful, Rosie the driver was awesome, and meeting Dr. Alvarez - with SO much experience and SO many patients, I still felt like he treated me as a friend, not a number. His nurses and translators were also just fantastic!
Everything went smoothly for me and I was very well informed. I just LOVE how organized everything is laid out - I never had any questions or worries about what was next, what to do, what was coming.

I am now nearly 3 months out and am down around 40 lbs. I feel incredible. I would completely recommend Dr. Alvarez in a heartbeat because I trust him. He answered all my questions, he spent lots of time with me and my friend before and after surgery - he was relaxed, never rushed - it was perfect because of how nervous and anxious we were.

Since he works out of Mexico, there is no aftercare, but he sent me home with extensive paperwork to answer all sorts of my questions - AND - whenever I called him or emailed him, I got a reply or call back in good time :)
I give him a 10 out of 10 for sure!

I'm just going to add my glowing remarks to the chorus of praise for Dr. Alvarez. He is very charismatic and reassuring, makes you feel like a friend instead of a number and there is nothing he wouldn't do for you to help you along on your weight loss journey. His staff is amazing. Susan, his patient coordinator, is a doll who has patiently answered a thousand of my emails. Rosie, who picks you up in San Antonio and shuttles you back and forth from the clinic, is upbeat and cheerful and is happy to engage you in conversation or let you sit in comfortable silence. His nursing staff is the best. Many do not speak English but are focused on taking care of you. There is at least one nurse who speaks fluent English at all times available to you and both are sweethearts. I felt better treated in his hospital than any Canadian hospital I have been in. I'd highly recommend him. The only negatives I can think of are being a little put off by the area surrounding the hospital and the fact that the hospital is definitely older. Anyone expecting a five-star resort would be disappointed, but for me, I didn't go for a vacation, I went for a skilled surgeon and a high level of patient care, and I got both.

My name is Amber, I am 18 years old.My grandmother went with me for support. I went to see Dr.Alvarez to have my VSG. We drove from Northern California to Eagle Pass, Texas. On The morning of Surgery (June 11th), Our amazing driver Rosie came and picked us up along with another patient who had the surgery. around 8am we left the hotel and headed across to Mexico. It was LITERALLY 1 minute across the border. As soon as we got to the hospital each patient met with Dr.Alvarez as well as his other assisstants to go over medical history, and questions we had. We then had some blood work taken and a chest x-ray. They had us go into our rooms that had a couch (pull out bed) for our guest who came with us, tv, our own bathroom with a shower. Everything was really nice, EVEN THE PEOPLE!! I mean you just don't usually get really good service in the U.S I have never had a good experience in the states. They were all so caring and helpful and were always in and out of your room asking you if you needed anything at all. The first night was rough for me, and the doctor came back to the hospital just to reassure me and help me any way he could to feel more comfortable. Not many doctors would do that, usually they would just have the nurses deal with it. The day after we did the leak test, and I cleared that. Everything went amazing! Dr.Alvarez is very good at what he does, and he is a very kind person who loves what he does and loves to help others. He really is one of my heros, cause he did save me. I love how he continues even after surgery to be there for you. Dr.Alvarez and his staff are the best!

Thanks again Dr.A!

My name is Loretta and 8 months ago I had the VSG surgery with Dr Guillermo Alvarez. I could not believe that I was actually going to Mexico to have surgery, but after years of diet after diet I did not allow myself to think any negative thoughts. After much research I really liked what I was reading about Dr. Alvarez. I am 62 years old and decided that I wanted to enjoy the rest of my life, so when my husband retired in December, I signed up for surgery in January 2010. Dr. Alvarez and his staff were fantastic. He immediately put all of my fears to rest and I could not have had better care. He is a very caring Doctor and the after care that he provides is great. If I ever need anything I only have to e-mail him or call and he answers right away. I have lost 73 pounds in 8 months and feel great. My cholesterol was 239 before surgery and now is 150. What a change in my health and my quality of life. Anyone thinking of having this surgery should definitely consider Dr Alvarez and his staff. You could not be in better hands. Trust them and do what they ask and you will have the tools to have a great future.

Why did I pick Dr. Alvarez? His cordinator Susan mad me feel very comftorable picking him over all other Dr.S. All the others reminded me of chop shops. It was a great journey. His Driver Rosie picked us up from the La Quinta Inn in San Antonio, she took us to Dr.Alvarez's office and took us back to San Antonio after the surgery, there were no fears of getting lost by driving. She was awesome. My first impression of Dr. A, this is a great man, I was 100% I made the right choice for my surgeon. His whole team was awesome. Dr. A and his assistant came to see me at least 2 a day if not 3, I never get that kind of treatment in the U.S. Then you have Jessica which sits outside of your room for any needs by you or your family. She was great she went out with my family to help them get meals or anything else they needed. It has been 7 months since my surgery I have lost 135 lbs, If I every have any questions they are only a phone call away or an email away. You would not believe how fast Dr. A or Susan answer the emails. I mean 7 months later they still care like its the first day after surgery. Dr. A is my hero he saved my life. Him and his team will always have a special place in my heart. My overall experience was great on a scale of 1 to 10 I give him a 20. I would recommend him to anyone, you have nothing to worry about in his hands, you are safe.

Dr. Alvarez and his staff made this surgery easy, affordable, and have supported me through the entire process. From my initial inquiry to today, 9 months post-op, they have shown the same level of dedication to me and my weight loss journey.

At first I was apprehensive about having the surgery in Mexico, but my fears were soon calmed by the staff and my own research. Crossing the border into Mexico was safe and unhindered, as was my return. The hospital does not look like most hospitals in the United States; it reminded me of the old tv show Marcus Welby. However, it was clean and I had everything I needed in my own room. The hospital staff was very friendly and I had my own translator to help if I needed and to tell me about shopping and restaurants in the area for my travel companion.

Dr. Alvarez and his surgical assistant were very thorough in my pre and post-op appointments so I was informed of any and all possible risks or complications. Most of all they reminded me that surgery is a tool to help with weight loss, not the big fix.

I have lost 78 lbs. in 8 1/2 months and feel like a new woman. I highly recommend EndoBariatric and Dr. Alvarez!

At first I was worried about going to Mexico but after reading all his reviews and how pleased everyone was, I just knew I found my doctor. Dr. Alvarez and his entire staff were great, the nurses were very nice and knew what they were doing. Dr. Alvarez takes time, sits with you, explains everything, what to expect directly after surgery and what to look forward over the next year or so. My entire experience was great. I wouldnt change a thing. It's only been 5 months and Im down 55lbs, 3 pants sizes and I am feeling like a new person. The hospital room was really nice and my husband had plenty of things to do to keep him busy. My recovery was perfect, I dont get sick, I dont ever feel like I am missing out on food, Im always satisfied when I finish eating. It's the best thing ever!

My initial reason for picking Dr. Alvarez to do my sleeve was because he is just over the border of texas into a town called Piedras Negras. I liked the idea that it was not a"border town" Many times when I would visit my parents in arizona we would go down into mexico over the border into Nogales. Even though I had only been there once I remember thinking it was so "desperate" .From the children that scurried up to you ,to the heavy merchant population right at the border. When you cross over from Eagles Pass Tx into Piedras Negras it is like crossing over into a quite little village. The other reason I picked Dr. Alvarez was that every thing about the trip was organized and greased like a well oiled machine. We were always escorted and nothing was left to chance. I also like that there were really no hidden cost. My care was all inclusive with the price. It included my doctor,my anestigiologist,my hosital rooms, my nurses,my medications, our hotels, transportation.
My husband and I flew into San Antonio and took the 5 minute prearranged shuttle to the hotel where Rosie picked us up for the two hour ride to Eagles Pass. Nothing was left to chance. At all times we were escorted and had cell phone numbers for both Rosie and the coordinator Susan.Rosie was very accomadating and speaks fluent english. The hotel that you stay in in Eagles pass is newly renovated, spotless and accessable to local restaurants in walking distances.Of course I could not eat but my husband, sister and my Dad all could. The hotel also had a great free breakfast buffet for them in the morning.I will continue later...

I had VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) surgery performed by Dr. Guillermo Alvarez on January 18, 2010. It was the best experience with a surgeon/doctor I've ever had. He was so professional and took such time and care in our feelings. An American doctor has never been so caring like him. His staff was wonderful as well. Susan took care of all our paperwork and any questions we had before and after surgery. He has a great bedside manner and answers any and all questions with you in his office before the surgery. Dr. Alvarez totally made me feel at ease upon first meeting him. I was a little nervous when crossing the border into Mexico since that was my first time out of the United States but he made me feel totally relaxed. The day of my surgery everything went just like Susan and him had told me it would. He made sure we understood all the aftercare as well before returning home. He even checks in with me from time to time and is always available to help. I am now 8 months post-op and I've lost 65 pounds and it's been the best thing that's ever happened to me! It's helped my knees and back so that I can get out of bed easier each day and even run on a treadmill. I am a much happier person to be around and I love trying on clothes now! I feel more confident when going on in public and don't feel like I'm being judged by my weight. If I had to do it all over again....I WOULD and I'd still have Dr. Alvarez do my surgery. He is the best doctor I've ever had. He is so caring and truly loves to help others!
Thank you Dr. A for helping me regain my life back!
