Daniel Deziel Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

all i have to say is he was great. i had a previous surgery date with a differsnt doctor for nov 10 and two weeks before i had called the office to make sure i had all the correct paperwork done for the surgery and it was then that i had been told that my surgoen wasnt employed there any more. and because i had hmo i had to find another docter within that hospital to do my surgery. so i had to go through all the referrals again for the consultation and everything but lukily i had all my tests done and everything was basically ready to go. so he fit was able to fit me in on the 20th of nov. man i felt so blessed.he was there everyday while i was in the hospital. i can honestly say i have no complaints.

March 21, 2003....Great news!, today i had a consult with Dr. Daniel Deziel, what a wonderful man, I explained the situation with Dr. Alverdy with him and he fully agreed with me that losing 50lbs wouldn't make a difference one way or another, He explained everything about the procedure, and evey drew me a diagram...he also said that he'd feel better doing an open instead of lap, I was a little disapointed but it didn't last long when he said the soonest he could get me in was april 15th!!!! my cousin Tanya started to cry..she's been with me thru all of this and even wound up having hers(WLS) before me...i'm so excited. i could burst..

My first impression of Dr. Daniel Deziel was that he is friendly and caring individual(surgeon)and very easy to talk to....all my fears were put to rest after my initial consult with him.
I liked his no BS approach to WLS....he told me it would work and why...he drew a diagram and explained the surgery to me.
He doesn't sugar coat any of the details....risks, how behavior has to be modified, ect.
My impression of him only got better as I progressed though my pre-op,surgery and post-op period....Dr. Deziel really does care :)
He came up to my room along with some of his interns and he actually sat down and talked to me for a while(He is a Professor of Surgery @ Rush)... A busy guy...
You can check him out over at http://www.usurg.com/
The office staff are very pleasant over there also...Dr. D's assistant, Renata, is great!
Anytime I had a question or concern, She was usually available to take my call or would call back very soon after I called.
That was very important to me.
Aftercare:
It is structured enough for me...I do what ever my doctor and my nutritionist tell me to do...
They have a Bariatric program over there but it is not all"in your face"- and you don't have to go to pre-op seminars and meetings....which suited me very well.
They do all work together there...like surgeons, nutritionist, and pysch dept.
I was able to do all my bloodwork, upper GI,and other test in my hometown of Rockford then my PCP forwarded all that to them.
I rate Dr. Deziel very highly...his surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.
He is very easy to talk to and he really is a caring doctor.
I feel really good about my decision to have WLS and him to be my surgeon.
Thank you for giving me the tool I needed and a chance at a normal life, Dr. Deziel :)

I originally was scheduled for surgery with Dr. Brems @ Loyola. I heard, after he lost a hisk-risk patient, he cancelled my surgery and many more patients leaving us all in a scramble to find a new doctor.
On June 6, 2003 I met with Dr. Deziel at Rush Presbytarian (St. Lukes). Due to drive time from Rockford to Chicago, it is hard to guestimate with trafic. I ended up arriving 40 minutes early for my appointment. Regardless, I was seen 7 minutes after I arrived. I was most impressed already.
Dr. Deziel was very warm, personable and open to all questions and comments. His assistant Reynata is very thorough and I can already tell, is there for you. They have a very thorough program for their gastric bypass patients, from pre-op to post-op and anything I may need in between.
I am very impressed with Dr. Deziel, Reynata, Rush Presbytarian and all of his staff up to this point. I was much more relaxed when I left and feel having been cancelled by Loyola was a blessing in disguise!
August 2, 2003 Dr. Deziel and all of his student doctors were there to see me on a daily basis during my entire hospital stay. His entire staff is awesome as well as the hospital staff. There is always one bad apple in the bunch, which was a rude nurse I had. Aside from her, everyone was EXCELLENT and I think the hospital is a great hospital.
I'd recommend Dr. Deziel to anyone looking to have bariatric surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Deziel was that he instantly put my nerves at ease. He came into the room and within the first minute or two....I felt relaxed. He is very kind, informative, funny, and educated his curriculum vitae on his website speaks for itself. I feel I have found one of the best. His office staff are equally impressive. Truly kind people. Their office is totally on the ball. There are no dislikes to list. He spent an hour explaining the surgery with drawings, percentages, no sugar coating post-op life. Dr. Deziel is tops!!!!!

He is very attentive to you as a patient. Very easy to talk too. Seemed well versed in the surgery. He was able to answer all my questions.
No change
Office staff was very knowledgable and friendly.
Haven't experienced any dislikes.
Very Very nice, attentive, knowledge, confident.
after is a must with him.
Explains everything. Whys, possibilities and seriousness of surgery.
10
both are equally important.
These are comments made of my personal impressions, and are not ment to influence or discourage anyones decisions about the surgery or physicians that perform the procedures.
