Bruce Hardy Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr Hardy was very caring and interested when he found out that I would be paying for everything myself, because Welmark had a rider on me so that they won't pay for this surgery. He helped me get a good rate from the hospital and himself. My surgery was set for three weeks after our first and only meeting, which seemed unbelieveable. The staff was caring and answered all quesstions that I had. They helped set up a payment plan for me too. I would reccomend him to anyone even though I haven't had the surgery, I have complete faith in his abilities. He has the aftercare appointments set of a year and are included with the surgery. He told me of the risks which are great due to my size, my BMI is 78 which is one of the highest he has had. I will rate his bedside manner after surgery.

Dr. Hardy was very very nice. Never gave me a bad feeling about being so over weight and that he was truley there to help me.

Dr. Hardy's nurse was very informative giving me straight anwers and very nice also. I could tell when she got my approval letter that she was as happy for me as I was.

He is very busy and may be hard to get into, but be patient and when you get your turn he takes just as much time with you.

Dr Hardy was straight forward with the risk and what I would be expected to do after surgery to get the most weight loss out of the surgery.

I think that anyone having Dr Hardy would be very pleased with him.

Dr. Hardy was very professional. When I went to him
I had already been approved for the surgery. I
had initially scheduled with COMPASS but was going to
have to fly to Baton Rouge, LA alone. I also
needed someone to do followup. This brought me
to Dr. Hardy. He is now doing the whole thing
close to family and friends.

I was an unusual case, since I had already researched
the proceedures and surgeons. I know what I
wanted and forged ahead. My children are happy
that they get to be around for support. So far,
I would recommend Dr. Hardy and his staff. I
know from experience that the Hospital, Mary Greeley
Medical Center, is one of the best. (I used to work
there)I've had 3 c-sections and a gall bladder removal
at this hospital.

I liked Dr Hardy, he seemed very nice and I'm glad I chose him as my surgeon. My sister went with me for moral support and she's been to Mary Greeley hospital for a couple of surgeries herself and has had bad experiences at the hospital, she told me she had to "sit down" because she was shocked to have met such a nice doctor at that hospital. I got preapproved for the surgery 4 days after I had my consultation, now I'm just waiting for Dr Hardy and his nurse to come back in town on August 19th to talk about scheduling my surgery date...I'm so anxious. I hope all will go well.

I met with Dr. Hardy for my 1st consult. He seemed very nice and friendly. He answered all my questions and wanted to make sure I asked everything I needed to ask. I had a long wait to see him once I was there.

Dr. Hardy is very nice and informative. His office staff is very nice also. He is very experienced in performing WLS. He emphasizes that you have to follow the diet and the exercise program. He discusses all the risks involved during the surgical consult.

I was nervous as with any new Dr. one would see for a major problem. He was a quiet type of guy. I was still very nervous because he was a General Surgeon and I wondered about his knowledge and credentials. I felt he knew I wanted to do this procedure(RNY) because he immediately sent a letter to my Ins. co. and would be available to do this operation when I was ready. He seemed to general at first. I felt he wouldn't know enough about after care. He has been pretty good so far. I have had some minor set backs in the first month but things are getting much better. He has always made time for me if I needed him nd his office staff has been very nice. I would suggest him to anyone who is interested in having this procedure.

I was a little bit nervous that I wouldn't like him, but he was a great dr. His nurse was very friendly and talked to me lie she really cared. and still does. There really isn't anything that I didn't like about him. He answered all of my questions and my husbands. He told me the risks that were involved in the surgery and all the things I wanted to know. He told me it wouldn't be easy that it would be something that I will have to live with for the rest of my life and that it will be a struggle, but that he knew that I could do it. He is a very good dr to go to and I would do it all again with him there.

My surgeon is Bruce Hardy, M.D. in Ames, Iowa. I am scheduled for an open RNY on April 23, 2001. I have great confidence in his ability as a surgeon. He spent 45 minutes with my husband and I going over every detail of the surgery. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law just had RNY last year so I had a good idea of what was going on already. He answered all of our questions very thoroughly. His nurse is very nice, I've spoken with her several times and she has also answered a few incidental questions that I thought of after my consultation. It sounded like he usually has his RNY patients come in for a few different visits to go over the procedure and questions. But since I had so much knowledge at my initial consultation and had brought in so much literature he said he would leave it up to me if I wanted to come back and talk to him some more. I still have a few weeks to go but so far I feel perfectly comfortable with seeing him again on the 23rd! I am concerned about aftercare. It doesn't sound like there is any kind of structured aftercare program and I've heard that this is very important. Guess I'll find out more about that postoperatively.
