I am a 56 year old woman, living on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington. I had my VSG on March 27, 2012 at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, WA. My surgeon is Peter Billings from Puget Sound Surgical Center. I had a wonderful experience with surgery and recovery so far.
I've been together with my husband for 11 years, and married for seven. During that time I helped him care for both his parents (who had Alzheimers) until their deaths. Last year we also cared for his 54 year old brother, who died of cancer. I thought we'd been through lots of tough times together and our marriage was solid.
My husband is a Fat Admirer. Although he understood all of my reasons for wanting the VSG, he couldn't get over the possible loss of his fantasy. So 5 days after surgery he asked me for a divorce, saying "I'm probably making the biggest mistake of my life, but life is too short not to go for what you want." So on top of my own considerable amount of weight to lose, I'm in the process of shedding another 250 lbs. of dead weight.
I've been in denial, then hurt, and now I'm determined. I plan to move back to Minnesota where my family lives as soon as possible. I also plan to work this sleeve and succeed in improving my health and well being. I will hold my head up high as I go forward on this journey, knowing that I am better off surrounded by family and friends who want me to succeed, rather than a husband that doesn't.
