Too Long

Apr 23, 2009

I know it has been too long since I visited this site.  And boy do I need it.  I have been losing and gaining 5 lbs for a couple of months now.  My last fill April 6 was the first time I felt some restriction.  But I still can eat about anything.  I don't know why I stop going to this site.  It is so important to keep focus on the goal.  I lost that these last few months.  So I will be lurking and reading once a day to re-establish my focus . . . on me.  I still feel great and my diabetes is still good.  No med's.  YEA!

Almost 2 months post-op and feeling great!

Jan 23, 2009

Well it has been almost 2 months since surgery and I am feeling great.  I am basically off all my diabetic medicine.  I just take a 1/2 of Glipzide once in a while if my BS goes high, which is caused by eating to much carbs usually.  It is sure nice not to have to take what I was taking.

I have had two fills so far on 1/5 and 1/19.  I will see the doctor, 2/2 for a 3rd fill if needed.  He is aggressive with his fills.  He likes to get to that "Sweet Spot" as soon as he can.  I do feel some restriction but still get hungry in the mornings now which is weird.  Before I had my 1st fill, I was never hungry in the morning.  Now that my blood sugars are the best they have been in a long, long time, I can start working on the weight loss which in turn will help my BS's even more.

As of today, I have lost 18 lbs since surgery.  It is slow com paired to others, but I am older and not a usually fast loser.  I am very happy with the pace.  Slow but sure!

6 weeks since surgery and 1st fill

Jan 06, 2009

Well, I am 6 weeks out from surgery and yesterday I had my first fill.  That was interesting.  I am a little sore around the port right now, but not bad.  Doctor told me I don't have to do the liquid diet part but to eat slowly and chew well.  I thought I would have to follow the liquid diet as many posters have to after their fills.  I am not as hungry as I was which is nice and feel full faster.  I go for my 2nd fill in two weeks.  My doctor says he likes to get us to that "Sweet spot" as fast as he can to help with the weight loss.

So far my blood sugars are doing good.  I would like to see them get lower.  This morning I showed a 127.  Now that the holiday's are over, I can do better at what I should be eating.

11 days out and feeling great.

Dec 05, 2008

I am 11 days out from my Lab Band surgery and still off my diabetic medicine.  My surgeon told me not to take anything unless my blood sugars go over 200.  Then check with my family doctor when I get my staples out, as I might have to go on a lower does.  Well, I saw my doctor yesterday, and she told me to keep doing what I am doing and not to take anything.  (unless it gets over 200)  WOW!  I am so excited about my future.  Before surgery, I was taking 3 orals, twice a day and 2 Byetta shots, twice a day.  I feel so good right now, I can't believe it.  NO regrets on this surgery.

4 days being Banded

Nov 29, 2008

Just checking in to let everyone know how I am doing 4 days out.  I've been sleeping like a baby on both sides in my bed.  I am a side sleeper.  Haven't had to take any pain medicine except what they made me take at the hospital to make sure to didn't get sick from it.  Didn't even fill my prescription.  My stomach is sore but getting better each day.  I know I will feel good enough to work on Monday.  The only thing I am having a hard time with is knowing when I am hungry.  Right now I am so programed to eating three meals, I keep thinking its time to eat.  So far today, I only ate at 10:30.  Trying to not think about meals right now even though my family want to eat their meals.  My blood sugars are staying between 150 and 115.  Haven't taken any med's for the diabetes.  The doctor told me to monitor it for this week and when I went into my doctor to get the staples out, make any adjustments then.  So I might need a low dose until my body catches up.

I am now Banded

Nov 26, 2008

Well, I made it.  Went to the hospital at 6:00am Tuesday and then ended up waiting until 7:30 before they took me down to get ready for surgery.  A lot of feelings on that ride and leaving my husband.  Everything went well and I was in my room by 10:30.  By 1:00 I was ready to get up and go to the bathroom, and since I was up, I started walking.  I had no pain just a little soreness on my stomach.  Had to spend the night as required but the way I was feeling, I could have gone home.  Before they let me go home, they wanted me to try some of the pain medicine to make sure I didn't get sick from it.  Well I didn't get sick and I didn't feel any different taking it.  So we left Wednesday at noon for my daughters home for Thanksgiving.  It will be good to get home and sleep in my own bed.   Today, I am feeling good, just sore.  Helped my son make the turkey, stuffing and pie for dinner today.  My daughter is sick in bed.  Not fun for her.  Looking forward to some thin down mash potatoes.

Getting ready

Nov 22, 2008

Okay, my day is almost here.  Can't believe it.  After four months of waiting, I'm ready.  Need to call my sister, Dad and Mother to let them know what I am doing.  I dread that part.  Oh well, need to get it done.  We will be leaving around 5:00 Monday morning to the hospital for my pre-op.  It will take around 4 hours to get there and I hope the weather stays good.  Then at 6:00 Tuesday morning, I am scheduled for surgery.  Then my doctor requires you to stay over night, so I will be going home on Wednesday.  But I'm not really going home, I will stop on the way back at my daughters home and stay for Thanksgiving Day.  That is also my 37th anniversary.  Then Thursday night we will finish the hour drive home.  I know I will be glad to get home after being gone since early Monday.  I hope all goes well.  I need to be ready to go back to work on Monday.

One Week Away!!!!!

Nov 18, 2008

Well, today I am one week away from surgery.  I am still holding my breath in hopes they don't cancel my surgery again.  I think I am past that part, but right now I have to worry about a nasty cold that is going around.  My husband has it bad and I am hoping I don't get it.  I woke up in the middle of the night and we were both facing each other and he was breathing right in my face.  Boy did I turn away fast.  So I guess if I get it, I get it.  So far I feel great.  Think positive, right?

WAIT A MINUTE. . .I mean ANOTHER MONTH?

Oct 08, 2008

I can't believe it.  Received a call and they cancelled my surgery for October 28th and now I have been re-scheduled for November 25th.  I have been waiting since the end of July for surgery and now its another month.  Who would of thought it would take four months.  I sure hope they don't back out on this date as my "grace period" for my insurance ends in December.

Six Weeks

Sep 17, 2008

Well, I am basically six weeks away from having my Lap Band surgery.  Most of the summer I was nuts waiting to hear when my date will be.  It is amazing just knowing the date has put me at ease and I am at peace.  It still seems so far a way but my October is so packed, it will end up here before I know it.   Guess I better get ready.
