Well this is my first full day home.  I am tired and gettting everything in has been a struggle so far.  Unfortunately I am not part of the 85% that resolves their diabetes immediately.  I have been instructed to go back on all of my medications for now and we will adjust medications as I lose weight as needed.  I knew this was a possibility but didn't realize it would take 45 minutes just to get the medicine's in in the morning.  As my stomach heals this should get easier.  Surgery itself went well but the surgeon was concerned because my stomach sat much higher than usual.  He was concerned that I may have an aortic aneurysm.  Fortunately a cat scan showed that to be normal and that my anatomy was just a little different.  So while I am a little discouraged, I look forward to this journey and what the future brings.

Well the date that I thought would never come is finally almost here and I am as nervous as I can be and excited at the same time.  Required to be at the hospital at 6:00 am and surgery is scheduled for 8:00.  The good thing about the early time is that I will never really wake up in the morning until it is all over.   I am not a morning person!  See you on the other side!

Well my surgery is one week from tomorrow.  I spent today doing the pre-op testing and patient education class.  I don't ever remember having twenty vials of blood drawn for any kind of testing.  Ann from Sycamore Hospital does a really nice job and i fell as if I an ready to get this show on the road

Met with surgeon today to do a history and physical.  Have to see a cardiologist next week for his clearance, (something about my advanced age).  At the end of the appointment, the nurse advise me that I could set a date for surgery.  Surgery is scheduled for March 24, 2009.  Why am I nervous all of a sudden.  

Well this has been an interesting week.  Tuesday I talked to my surgeon's office and they have scheduled me for a History and Physical next Thursday 2/19.  Supposed I will get a surgical date set then.  Thursday they called and said because of my age (54), I needed to be cleared by a cardiologist and did I have a cardiologist.  I said no that i had never had any heart problems. They said they would set up a referal.  Wonder how long this will set me back?

Just recieved a call from Kettering Bariatrics and Anthem has approved my surgery.  Will get a timetable sometime next week.

Well it is two weeks later and still no answer from Anthem.  At least at My Anthem online it now shows my request as pending.  Hope to hear this week.

Well, I seem to have run into two glitches.  Dr Trevedi is leaving Kettering Bariatrics and my case is being switched to Dr. Schumaker.  Called Anthem to see if they had made a decision on my case and learned that they had no record of the request.  I was afraid of this when the request went in on 12/30 just before the new year's long weekend.  Called the Dr.'s office and they are going to fax the request in again.  So the waiting begins again.

The process has been fairly smooth for me so far. I have completed my initial information session, met with the surgeon, had my psych, exercise, and dietician evaluations.  Talked to the surgeon's office today and they will be faxing the request to my insurance carrier in the morning.  I do not expect any real problems as we went through all of this with my wife with no problems.
