I'm Back!

May 20, 2009

Yea, its been a while since I made an update, sorry about that, I've been pretty busy. Sooo....I had my first appointment with my doctor! Yay! It went pretty well, and really like my doctor. His name is Dr.Edward Chin and he seems like a kind and involved doctor. I answered a looong questionare about my diet history and fill out a bunch of forms. I arrived 15 minutes late and still had to wait more than an hour to get seen. I was nervous going in, and when they weighted me, I weighed 353lbs. So, we sat and talked for while and in the end, he said I was a perfect canidate, but, I have to lose 30 lbs in 6 months.

30lbs? I feel like there is no way I can do that!   I feel soo discouraged. My next appointment is on the 29th, and I was supposed to have lost 7 lbs by then. For the past two weeks, I haven't even tried. I've beeneating the same as always, stopped counting my calories and just been plain lazy.

Yesterday though, I finally woke up! HELLO! I NEED THIS! What am I doing? If the doctor is gonna do this surgery, and if I'm going to be accepted by my insurance, I NEED TO GET MY ASS IN GEAR! I mean, this is the REST of my lie I'm talking about! And I can't make a little bit of effort?

So, after I got outta my coma, I been doing things differently. I cut out all oil! Instead, I use a spray of Pam.I'm also cutting out alot of rice. I live in a spanish household so rice is an every day thing. We cook it with a bunch of oil, salt, and other stuff, and I'm sure its unhealthy for me. So far, my diet consists of yogurt, fruit, Original Corn Flakes, and 1% milk. Like this morning, I had a yogurt, and a waffle. When I got hungry again, I ate an apple. Then, for dinner, my moms making these deep fried beef empanadas, so I'm taking 1/2 cup ground beef, a cup of broccoli, some a little onion and cooking it up in a spray of Pam. It'll be finely chopped and I'll wrap them in some lettuce leaf. I MIGHT throw in 1/4 cup rice.

I've also been walking ALOT more. Since I dont havea job or anything, I usually, wake up, eat, stay in bed and watch tv ALL day, thats IT. I've been picking up my bed and REFUSING to get back in it ALL day.

Another good excersise for me is dancing. I'm into the rave scene, so I listen to Happy Hardcore, and Techno, jumping around and dancing for 15 minutes after eating is easy peasy for me. It gets my heart racing.

Also, since I aminto the rave scene, whenever I'm hungry, I go take a long hot bath to take my mind off of it. If not, I make alot of pony bead jewelry, so to take my mnd off hunger, I just start a new project. This actually works well.

I'm dissapointed in myself for letting myself get that discouraged though, I gained 5 POUNDS in those 2 weeks. Or more I think. I just hope I can lose SOME weight before the 29th. Wish me luck, and thanks for reading!

What does it all mean?

Apr 18, 2009

So, I went to the doctor for the first time in like, 2 years, and it went okay. First and most exciting, I got my referal! Woo! More of that later. So, it was my first time at a new doctors and it wasnt bad at all. The office is kinda small, but everyone there is super friendly and helpful. I asked questions about my health and he put me back on my asthma medication (thank God!). Also, he drew blood and ran a battery of tests to see how I was doing. I had to wait forever for him to see him, and the appointment was 8 mins. tops. I waited for 3 hours. I'll have to get used to that I suppose. Anyhow, I was supposed to go in 3 days later to review my results, they didnt get them on the day of the appointment so, I called the next day and they had gotten my results. So, it turns out that my doctor wants to re-draw some blood sometime this week because, my blood platelets are low, and he said something about my Thyroid enzymes or hormones. I have no idea what this could mean, so I'm confused. Any ideas? Well, after my appointment I made an appointment with the Surgeon I wanna see! Dr.Edward Chin at Mt.Sinai! I'm excited and nervous, I hope it goes well! I have toi wait about 3 weeks to see him though, its on May 1st. I guess he only sees patients on Fridays and he's always busy. Also, I got my official Fidelis card! Yay! I'm also getting my new glass sometime this week. So far, so good! Though I really wonder whats wrong with my blood and thyroid! Hope its not serious! Well, thanks for reading!

Getting my ducks in a row.

Apr 07, 2009

So, today, I took the first step and made calls and asked questions. I recently applied for health insurance again (FidelisCare-Medicaid), since I haven't seen a doctor for over a year. I've had ways of getting my asthma medication, but those resources are running out, and I suspect I have diabetes. Anyways, I applied in Janurary, and am just now getting a Fidelis ID card. It came with numbers and a guidebook, but still no cards. I called and they said it would be here within 5-8 business days, which makes me very happy. While on the phone I asked about getting a new doctor, how referals worked, if I was covered for WLS, and they also showed me how I can find any specialty doctor in my network, through a simple on-site search engine. The lady on the phone was very helpful, and I love my insurance so far. I also called the Medicaid Company, and my Benifet card should arrive shortly. So, turns out I am covered, (Yes!) and that with a simple referal I can start seeing a WLS specialist! Well. I'm going to dissapear for now, but I'll be back with information on my target surgeon. =]
