Well I actually started this journey over ten years ago investigating and considering WLS then. Was not in a situation where insurance would pay for it so.....it was more about research that reality. I finally joined a company last fall (2007) that would cover the procedure. Woohooo. Went to my seminar in Jan and had my first doc appt in April. Everything progressed smoothly until July. I had every pre requirement done but my company changed insurance AND policy. All of a sudden WLS was no longer covered. I was furious. Then my mom did some research about surgery in Mexico. I must confess that at first I thought she had lost her mind. What would they give me a bottle of Tequila and say it will only hurt for a minute? But when I started looking into it low and behold I discovered that it was not nearly as crazy as I thought. Hell the vast majority of people in the US and Canada that pay for it themselves come to Mexico. So then it became the process of selecting a surgeon. I chose Dr. Joya. And I have been happy with that choice every step of the way. Surgery is today--August 29, 2008. Wish me luck! UPDATE: Had surgery in Mexico and it was a total success. I was blessed with a great surgeon and a wonderful medical team. I am doing well and ahead of my goals. Thank you to everyone and their support. Now to reach that ultimate goal-----losing 269.
