The smells of Christmas

Dec 26, 2010

Christmas is over - I am 4 weeks out from surgery tomorrow and down 23 pounds.  Almost 1/4 of the weight off alreay - it's hard to believe.  I was shocked to find myself in tears over the Christmas cookies - thankfully my husband emptied the freezer and took them all over to a friends house - what was I thinking.  THe smells of food seem to trigger the head hunger worse than anything else.  I have also found my surgeons recommended diet to be exceedingly bland.  I never ate those foods before and have a hard time eating tuna,  chicken broth, etc.  What can I have with more flavor?  I have had thai lemongrass soup, sushi, miso soup - anything exotic sounds much better than cottage cheese and cream of mushroom soup  I give thanks for smoked salmon.   I have no tolerance at all for sugar at this point.  Two tablespoons of s/f applesauce and I am feeling wierd.  I wonder if that will change.  I need to go to the gym and get moving - slightly difficult until now since I was bleeding from a complication   I have to go in for outpatient surgery in the next couple of weeks to make sure what the surgeon sees is damage and not cancer - unlikely considering what happened to cause the bleeding.  .  Shouldnt be too bad, other than that it never should have happened.   I feel comfortable now that exercise wont cause further damage though after having a CT and exam. I need to get moving  before the winter doldrums completely set in,   I wonder what to expect as far as weight loss this next month,  Wil I lose 12 pounds or so?  We'll see.

Surgery Scheduled

Oct 27, 2010

I got a call tonight and my surgery is scheduled for November 30.  Exciting and scary.  This will be the first holiday season in 24 years that I will not be gaining weight.  I need to focus on exercise, as well as getting things ready for the holidays since I will be recovering prior to Christmas.  I hope to find other Marylanders with a similar surgery date.

FInally Approved

Oct 26, 2010

Today Oct 26, 2010, I finally got approved for surgery 5 years after my first attempt to get approval.  Two years ago I was scheduled for surgery, and had "approval", and the insurance company decided that there was a computer error and that I wasnt covered the day before surgery.

I  do not have a date yet - waiting for the surgery coordinator to call - but I am ecstatic.  My surgeon is booked, thru the end of the year, so I am eager to get it scheduled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I weigh more than when I originally became an OH member, but only a few pounds thanks to that 6 month diet/
