Hi my name is Karen, I am 40 yrs. old. I have always struggled with my weight. I would diet and lose weight but then I would always put it back on plus more. For the past 4 years I have not been as active as I was in the past. On 8-31-04 my life was changed forever. On that morning I was out taking my usual 2 mile walk to help with weight loss and an eldery gentlemen fell asleep driving and hit me (he was going about 50 mph). I was in the hospital for a while and then had to go to a rehab hosp for a while. For a while I was paralyzed from the cheek bones down and they thought I would never walk again. I proved them wrong though, I fought very hard to try to get my life back. I am now resticted in what I can do. Being at my highest weight ever 254 lbs. I am ready to have the WLS and claim even more of my life back! Not only will this be much healthier for me but it will enable me to have a better quality of life. Right now I walk around my house with a walker and some days it is hard. I am hoping with the WLS and hard working exercising I will be able to ditch that and walk again on my own. I am very excited and am sooooo looking forward to this. I have a great support system, exspecially my fiance. He has been there for me before the accident and is still by my side, he has supported me through everything.
I was originally going to have the lapband done, but my 2 doctors feel that in my condition I would benefit the most from the gastric bypass.
