I'm 49 years old and have been over weight through childhood through adulthood. With each passing year I've progressively gained more weight. Like most others who are part of this website I've tried most diets and lost and gained pounds through the years. I'm 5'8" and my current weight is 261 and the lowest its ever been in my adult life was 147. I was 18 years old and had to lose about 10 pounds to be under the maximum allowable to joing the Air Force.  I did it by starving myself but I felt like a million bucks. I'd like to have that feeling back again.

I've been semi planning for this surgery for at least a year.  I had to switch policies at my work to a company that offered the coverage, UHC - which meant that I had to wait until open enrollment in November 2008. Even though my benefits manager said no one had ever been approved through UHC I decided to try any way.  My insurance approval was pretty easy. I got the answer back in about 2 weeks.  The approval letter was dated on my birthday, January 26th. Great present!

I am very excited about my surgery next week and... a little bit nervous.  Not about the actual procedure but how challenging the new program is going to be for me.  There are a lot of rules regarding adequate protein and fluids.  I need a chart so I'll work in that tonight.  My pre-op liquid diet starts tomorrow.

I'm an over planner so I've got my weight/measurements chart all made out and the first entries filled in.  Here goes... a new year, new me.

I've tried to load a before picture but I'm having trouble with it saying the file is too big... need some help.
