Hi I am 46 years old and live in the UK, decided to join this site as the UK forums seem to dwell on all the negative things about gastric bypass. My surgery is due to take place before Aug 8th 2009 and to be honest I'm really scared.  I am  booked into a private hospital but the UK national health  service is paying for it, But I have payed my taxes and national insurance all my life so why should I not get something back?  Some people are so negative towards people who have weight problems and think you just have to stop eating, I really wish it was that simple.

Tried every diet that has been invented and a few of my own lol!  Always had to watch my weight but lost the plot when I had my first child 17 years ago. My weight has just increased over the years and I yo yo up and down but never achieve anything permanent.  I have 3 children and a fab hubby who is supporting me through this but whether he will be able to give up the chocolate biscuit's as promised remains to be seen!!!!!!
My children are 17 (b) 14 (g) and 13(b) and I lost loads of weight with my third baby. If I could have carried him for another 12 months or kept the umbilical cord attached I would not be the weight I am now.
I have two cats (one with 3 legs) and a small dog with bad hips, so no long walks there to help with the exercise.
I work in a primary school and kids can be very cruel , one child told me that if you eat the wrong food it makes you fat and added that "I should stop eating cake". Out of the mouths of babes as they say often comes the truth!

I would like to make some new friends and maybe chat to someone who is going to have surgery in the next couple of months and we could help support each other!

This is my big adventure towards the new me , come and join me!
Jackie
