Jan. 15, 2007 61 years young 2 days ago. Well, let's see..................I am an Art Teacher in a small community outside Tulsa, Ok. I live in Tulsa and commutearound 30 minutes each way. I had my Lapband at age 60. It was a longer struggle than I thought to get there. No ins coverage for the band so we were self pay. Well, my sisiter and her husband paid for my surgery. I refused their help for a year but then when my diabetes started to take a tole, I finally said yes. I started at 317 pounds about 2 years ago. I was around 302 in January when I started this adventure again. Even at self pay, it took 7 months and my PCP's intervention with my surgeon to get me a date. I wanted to try and get it done during the summer break so I could heal before school started back. I had 2 weeks before school started to heal, did fine. Surgery went well. I lost down to 262 by the surgery date on a low carb diet. That is what my surgeon suggested. Since I read that you can only expect to loose around 50 to 70% of your wleight after surgery, I decided to loose as much as I could before surgery. Good thing, I haven't been good at looseing after. I think one problem has been a lack of direction for my eating. My surgeon's weight loss Bible is for both his RNY patients and his lap banders. I gradually added back items that I had not been eating since last December, 2005, before I went on my low carb diet because the plan told me to. I went bezerk in Sept when the halloween candy hit the stores and they made me the Freshman sponsor at school. We had to prepare for a carnival fund raiser around halloween and we give out candy and it is sooooooooooooo stressful. We didn't make very much money and I ended up doing most of the work because the kids disappeared when it came time to work. Enough of that, I didn't handle it well. I have struggled up and down the same 4 pounds it seems all the time. After reading what everyone else has done I admit I am ashamed of myself. It has been slow. I finally broke the 240 and now have langered around 238. I have read of others struggles on the board so I don't feel so bad. The only time I am sad is when people ask me how much weight I have lost since the surgery. I read some words of wisdom from the experienced banders this weekend and see where I may have gone wrong. I haven't been measuring or watching the fat content of my foods. I shall try to do better to make my sister's investment be profitable. It is already in many ways, I have stopped some of my diabetes meds and have given away many clothes, half of my closet. The band will help me not have to go there again. I can fit into any seats I want to now and don't have to eye seats without arms in resturants and hygine is a snap now. I also joined the Curves that is on my way home from work and have been going 4 days a week for two weeks. I'm in for the long run, just need to help myself down the field and not sabotage my way. I'll let ya know how I am doing.
