I got a letter from my insurance carrier on the 9th of Jan, which stated that the appeal done by my surgeon's office in Dec 2008 had been approved.  I had to read it several times to take it all in, it's truly an answer to prayer. I had basically given up on the lap band procedure after trying for a year to get approved and here I was holding the letter in my hand.

Needless to say, I was excited...then I called their office on Monday and got very nervous when the nurse asked me when I wanted to schedule my surgery.  I wasn't prepared for that.  Anyway, it's scheduled for the 27th of this month, so in about 2 weeks.  I start my 2 week liquid diet today and I am nervous about that too, but I am more excited about what is to come.

It's been awhile since I have written.  I got through the holidays and past the flu in Feb and now we are in a cool spring here in Texas.  I met with my Dietician yesterday and met with my surgeon today.  He asked me to follow up with my pcp and dietician next month and then begin getting all of the paperwork to his office so they could submit to my insurance for approval.  I'm a little nervous, but mostly optomistic that this will be the life changing tool for me.  I am doing what I need to do to pass the time and hopefully it will all work out.

I met with the surgeon yesterday afternoon and found out that my insurance requires 6 months of medically supervised weight loss from my PCP.  It is not the news I had hoped for, but I am trying to remain optimistic.  The Lap Band is a tool and if this is what I need to do to get the insurance company to pay for the procedure than that is what I will do.  I actually start seeing my PCP this week so I am hoping to be banded by May or June, which works fine because our girls will be out of school.  In the meantime, I will just focus on my education and getting all the paperwork together so there aren't any delays towards the end of 6 months!

I will post about my process as I go along.  But it also will serve to help remind me of where I have come from and what steps I took aong the way.

12.3.07 I attended the WLS seminar and felt very informed and ready to continue my process.

12.4.07 contacted my pcp's office to get  a referral to see Dr. Storey; made a f/u appt. with Dr. Storey for 12/17/07.

12.7.07 received call from pcp's office that referral is being mailed to me. I will see Dr. Storey on the 17th.  I begain typing out my Weight Loss/Gain History and my food log in hopes that will help with the insurance process.  I have already confirmed that our insurance will cover the procedure I just don't know if they will require the medicall supervised weight loss first or will give me credit for what I have already been through.  I will update when I know more.

Just registered with OH today.  I have my seminar on Monday, Dec. 3rd, so I am just beginning the process.

Hubby returns home tonight from a business trip so I will let him know about the seminar.  Not sure why I am nervous, but I am.  I also know it's time to do something.

We will see how it goes!  OH has been a wonderful wealth of information so far and hopefully, I will be post more as I go through this process.
