I began researching this site a few weeks ago and now am totally obsessed with reading everything I possibly can about this surgery and anyone who has had it. I have made my mind up that this is the path for me. I am scheduled to attend an informational meeting with Dr. Dennis Smith in Marietta, GA on May 4th. I have already filled out his questionaire and faxed it in so I am just waiting on my one-on-one initial consultation to be scheduled. In the meantime, I have already received paperwork from my insurance company stating their criteria for approval and yes, I do meet the requirements. They will cover the BPD/DS on a case-by-case basis for anyone with a BMI >50, with the weight of 298lbs, that puts my BMI at 52 so we will see what happens when the packet is sent to them for approval. I saw my pcp yesterday and he drew a gallon of blood for all of the surgeon's required bloodwork and he also scheduled me to have my Gallbladder Ultrasound, EKG, Chest X-ray, and Upper GI all to be done on May 3rd. So yes, I am starting the ball rolling before I even have my first visit with the surgeon. I can't help myself, once I make my mind up on something, I forge full-steam ahead! I want to do my part to make sure there are as few delays as possible.
