I am a 32 yr. old proud single mom of a 10 yr. old daughter. I am a nurse on a post-op bariatric surgery unit. But trust me I do not come anywhere near knowing ALL about bariatrics. As I am writing this I am off work on medical leave because of my back. I have been overweight since I was 21. I was diagnosed with diabetes and hypothyroid in early 2008 and injured my back in July 2008. I started to seriously consider bariatric surgery right before my first back surgery in Sept. 2008. It has taken the time since then to satisfy insurance requirements and receive approval for surgery. My surgery was scheduled for November 2010, but when I re-herniated a lumbar disc this March, my neurosurgeon, bariatric surgeon and workplace all worked together to move my surgery date up. My new surgery date is June 3, 2010 and I can't wait.
