I was born weighing 5lbs. That was the last time I wasn't overweight. Like many others I struggled and dieted all my life; losing some, gaining more and losing a little more self-esteem every time. At one point, through Overeater's Anonymous I lost the most weight and kept if off the longest. I was biking and running. In June of 1992 I had a bike accident and the helmet saved my life, but I stopped riding, and started eating more.
About 6 years ago, my co-worker and I started the paperwork to become RNY patients. Her appointment was one week before me and she was approved and had surgery. The week I had my appt the insurance changed their guidelines and I was not able to have the surgery. For years I have even changed employers just to try and get insurance that would cover WLS. Twice I had insurance that stopped covering WLS just as I was enrolled. in the mean time, I came hear a lot and read, researched and dreamed.
Finally, 18 months ago, I started a new job with insurance that covered WLS. I jumped through all their hoops including the 6 month diet...and waited for 3 months for an answer. June 1, 2010, I was approved.
